I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. I was spurred on as an infant by my sister (www.kellysweeney.co.uk) and then throughout my education where art was my favourite subject. I studied art to both GCSE and A-Level, and also undertook a Foundation Diploma college course in Fine Art at Exeter College Centre for Creative Industries, however, I never felt like I truly belonged. I str
uggled to understand and appreciate ‘contemporary’ art, I just wanted to create drawings and paintings that looked exactly like the subjects they depicted. Even now I struggle with conveying images from my imagination, my skills fit more perfectly with creating works of art from references - which is how I came to drawing animal art. I am constantly honing my skills and engaging with fellow artists who inspire me. I follow YouTube tutorials, and resources created by fellow artists on sites such as Patreon. With every portrait I produce I learn something new, and the progress across the years is demonstrable. I have always had a strong connection with animals and have loved many pets across the years. I am now lucky enough to share my life with my doting Labrador Pip, my affectionate puss cat Luna, and three Dartmoor Hill Ponies - Betty, Harry and Star. With the number of animals I’ve shared my life with over the past nearly thirty years, it’s no wonder they are my go-to creative muse. Although my art is not my main source of income, I hope one day to be able to reduce my ‘day job’ hours to dedicate more time to this passion of mine. Imagine just being able to draw and create all day? But until then, I will continue my work for Adult Socia Care. I do hope you enjoy my page, please do drop me a comment and say hi. You can find examples of my work in the photo albums. If you have any queries or would like to book a portrait, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
