Facebook Links Have Changed: Here’s Where to Find Everything

IMPORTANT FACEBOOK UPDATE

Facebook is no longer allowing business pages to share clickable links in posts and comments.

This means I will no longer be able to put a clickable link in the comments for you to access my free patterns, tutorials, courses and other resources.

So from now on, if I ask you to COMMENT A WORD, this is the only way you will have access to it.
This allows me to send the link directly to you in Messenger instead, so you can still access what I’m sharing.

Looking for an autumn needle felting project? In this full step-by-step tutorial I'll show you how to make a realistic penny bun mushroom from wool in around an hour. I'll show you how to build the entire mushroom around a simple barbecue skewer, creating a sturdy stalk and perfectly rounded cap before adding a smooth carded wool finish and subtle natural textures using a reverse felting needle.

This is a brilliant project for autumn makes and craft fairs. It looks far more complicated than it really is and is a fantastic way to practise shaping, surface finishing and creating realistic detail.

Your felting mat can make a bigger difference than you might think.

I’ve tried plenty over the years, but this simple rice-filled hessian mat is still one of my favourites. It's great if you're in a bind and don't have time to wait for the postie to deliver one. And, it can be made from stuff already in your kitchen. It gives you a firm, supportive surface to work on, helps protect your needles, and it’s inexpensive to make.

🍂 Turn Your Wool Scraps Into Autumn Mini Makes
Need a quick autumn project?
These little needle felted acorns are simple, seasonal makes that take 10 minutes and a negligible amount of wool. They’re ideal for using up small amounts of autumn colours and can be turned into brooches, garlands, decorations or little additions to a woodland display. Also great for craft fairs and online sales.

Hundreds of free tutorials. Years of YouTube videos, blog posts, tips and advice. And I’m very happy to keep creating them.

I genuinely love helping people discover needle felting. If you’ve learned something from one of my tutorials, made your first project, or even gone on to start your own handmade business, that’s exactly why I keep doing it.

But The Felt Hub isn’t a hobby. It’s been my full-time job for over twelve years and, like any small business, it only exists because people choose to support it.

The free content can only be created because, when people are ready to take the next step, some choose to buy a pattern, workshop or course.

I’ll keep creating free tutorials because I love helping people discover needle felting. I’ll also keep telling you about the workshops, patterns and courses that make that possible.

It's Not You. It's The Needle Felting Kit

A £3 Needle Felting Kit Isn't Always a Bargain

I know how tempting those dirt-cheap needle felting kits can be. Everything you need, a cute project, and change from a fiver. What's not to like? Quite a lot, sometimes.

I've been needle felting since 2013 and teaching it since 2014. I've also designed and created around 60 needle felting kits of my own, so I know exactly what goes into making a kit that actually works.

The wool matters. The needle matters. The amount of wool matters. And, importantly, the person writing the instructions needs to understand how the project is made.

A good kit isn't simply some wool and a needle popped into a box. Someone has designed the project, made it, tested it, photographed it, and worked out how to explain it so that you can make it too.

Those dirt-cheap kits can be a false economy, especially for beginners. If the materials and instructions aren't up to the job, it's very easy to assume you're the problem. You're probably not.

If you'd rather buy your wool, needles, and kits from people who actually know needle felting, I've put together a list of my favourite tried and trusted suppliers.

Don't Waste Hours Following the Wrong Tutorial
One thing that's becoming increasingly common online is tutorials that look convincing at first glance but leave you wondering whether the author has ever picked up a felting needle.

Before you spend your time following any craft tutorial, ask yourself:

• Can I see the finished project?
• Are there genuine work in progress photos?
• Is there a video or pattern created by the author?
• Does this person actually make the craft they are teaching?

If the answer to most of those is no, I'd be cautious.

AI is an amazing tool when it's used by people who know their subject. It becomes far less useful when it's used to create tutorials instead of supporting them.

Needle felting is a hands-on craft. You deserve to learn from someone who's actually done it.
