DIY mantelpiece...inspired by this one from next but instead of costing £225 it was about £50.
Chunky pieces of wood sat on top of thinner pieces, held together with brackets, then attached to the wall. Really simple to do.

Painted antique white with Rust-Oleum UK spray paint. The Husband told me to leave it natural wood instead of painting and wishing I had now.

Fire poker set was rescued from the tip by my Dad then spray painted.
Wood burner was given to us as no longer wanted.
Mirror was an absolute bargain in Dunelm sale.

Altogether could have cost a fortune but didn't!

As Grandstan has mostly hung up his saw and is too busy these days for joinery, I had to find someone else to create the furniture I wanted for our new house.

Enter 'The Husband!'

He has absolutely no background in joinery but has made some absolutely amazing things for a fraction of the price compared with buying them pre made.
With so many people having to tighten purse strings, I thought I would post some pictures to show what can be made with some fairly simple tools for so much less than buying online/ in the shops and hopefully save people some money in the long run.
This is our shelf unit in the living room which I'd seen a pic of online and wanted something similar to fill an empty corner. This was the Husband's first project and he managed it really easily. The black frame looks like metal but is actually wood spray painted black, which saved hundreds. All wood from a local timber merchants called ASC timber. Can't remember exact price but definitely less than £100.
Jug and rattan candle holder were fairly cheap from the range.
None of the items are for sale, all just pieces we have in the house at the moment.
