“But you’re mixed, you must have it so easy!”

“Yes, I hear you—but your problems don’t compare to other people’s.”

“Don’t you think you’re exaggerating? You get all the guys, what’s your issue?”

“Tired of the lightskin tears. Y’all have it easy.”

Who else is tired of being involuntarily pulled into a competition of who has it harder?

Who else is tired of having to prove that they don’t—or never did—have certain privileges?

And who else has experienced privilege in certain areas of life while still having genuinely painful, difficult, or traumatic experiences?

Because having certain privileges doesn’t make your pain disappear.

Being complimented for your hair doesn’t mean you can’t struggle with your identity. Being considered attractive doesn’t mean you can’t experience rejection, racism, colourism, fetishisation, insecurity, loneliness, or mental health struggles.

One person’s pain does not have to be worse for yours to matter.

Here at Mixed And Proud, we’re happy to shake up the room and say what others may be afraid to: we have feelings too, and we deserve empathy regardless of how we look.

The assumption that mixed people always have it “easy”—and therefore should suffer in silence—is incredibly dismissive and can be harmful to our mental health, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing.

So the next time someone tells you that you “have it easy,” remember:

You don’t have to prove that you suffered enough to deserve empathy.
Your feelings are valid. Period. 🤎

And if this is something you’ve experienced, you don’t have to unpack it alone.

We created a private community where mixed women can have these conversations honestly, openly and without having to constantly explain or defend their experiences.

Comment “MIXED” below and we’ll send you the details to join us. 🤎

A safe space to talk about the things that don’t always feel safe to talk about on social media.

LONDON WE ARE BACK IN PERSON!! 🩷

Have you ever felt like an outsider in your own city?

Like you’re surrounded by people, yet still not fully seen or understood?

We’re bringing this space BACK to the heart of London!! 🌍

This is an in-person gathering for mixed women who are looking for something deeper than surface-level connection.

This meetup is for those who have felt:

like they don’t fully belong anywhere

like they’re constantly overexplaining their identity

like their experience isn’t fully understood

like they’re often the only mixed person in the room

like they want to meet women who simply get it

WHAT TO EXPECT 🤍

This is more than simply meeting up for a drink.

Every Mixed Girl Meetup is intentionally created to give you a space where you can exhale, connect and feel at home.

Expect:

✨ meaningful conversations about identity, belonging, confidence and self-love

✨ confidence and self-love affirmations to remind you who you are

✨ encouragement and positive energy to leave you feeling motivated

✨ the opportunity to meet other mixed women and form genuine friendships

✨ a welcoming environment where you don’t have to explain or justify every part of yourself

✨ a curated experience designed to help you feel seen, supported and emotionally held

And most importantly…

you get to spend time with other mixed women who understand the nuances of growing up mixed.

Women who have joined our meetups often say:

“I didn’t realise how much I needed this.”

“I finally felt seen.”

“It felt like finding a home.”

“A refreshing healing space where you can just be yourself.”

If you’d like to join us, comment MIXED and we’ll send you the direct booking link 🩷

To every mixed girl who has ever felt like people couldn’t quite place you…

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing who you are.

It’s living in a world that keeps trying to tell you who you are supposed to be.

Danzy Senna has spent much of her work exploring that exact tension — race, passing, belonging, family, identity and the complexity of existing between categories.

and what I love about her story is that she didn’t try to make herself easier to understand.

She created language for the complexity.

because you don’t have to choose a side to make other people comfortable.

You don’t have to reduce yourself to one box.

and you definitely don’t have to explain away the parts of you that don’t fit neatly together. 🤍

Which part of this resonated with you?

Comment MIXED and we’ll send you the details of our private Mixed Girl Meetup community ❤️

“How Black am I?”
“How [insert other side] am I?”

If that question has ever lived in your mind… this is for you ❤️

Being mixed can feel like constantly being measured
like you have to prove yourself
like you don’t fully belong anywhere

But you were never meant to fit into one box
and you were never meant to choose

This is exactly why The Mixed Girl Meetup was created - a space where you don’t have to explain yourself

Where you can just exist — fully, as you are

We are meeting in the heart of New York City tomorrow — in person ✨

If this resonates , don’t just scroll past it

As someone who used to overgive a lot…
i’m learning to be more intentional with my energy ❤️

for a long time, i’ve been holding space in this community
and in my dms — responding with care, often through voice notes

and so many of you have shared how much that meant
feeling seen, understood, and starting to see yourselves differently

and now i’m practicing what i often speak about here…
creating more structure around how i show up

i’m opening a small number of
1:1 reflection spaces

this isn’t therapy
but it is a space to be heard, supported, and met with honesty

if this resonates,
comment “1:1” or check the link in bio

Yesterday’s Mixed Girl Meetup brought together women from all over the world ❤️

Different backgrounds, different ages —
including women in their 70s, sharing a depth of wisdom we could all learn from.

We spoke about the nuance of the mixed experience.

The things that are hard to explain —
but instantly understood when you’re in the right room.

Like being asked:
“Where are you from?”

And how sometimes it comes from genuine curiosity…
and sometimes it carries something else.

A quiet feeling of:
Do you really belong here?

There was so much softness in that conversation.
No over-explaining. No proving. Just understanding.

Some women shared deeply.
Some just listened.

Both were equally held.

If you’ve been resonating with the content

but haven’t joined yet —

this is the part you don’t see on Instagram.

SEE YOU TOMORROW? If you’ve been thinking about joining… this is your sign 🤍

We’re gathering tomorrow for our global mixed girl meetup

This is a space where you don’t have to explain yourself
where you can talk about your experiences as a mixed woman — openly, honestly —
and be met with understanding instead of confusion

a lot of women say the same thing after joining:

“I didn’t realise how much I needed this”

🤍

We talk, we share, we hold space for each other
sometimes we cry, sometimes we laugh
but most of all — you realise you’re not alone in any of it

🌍 Tomorrow, July 25
7pm London / 8pm Berlin / 2pm NYC / 11am L.A.

Growing up mixed, a lot of us weren’t just figuring out who we were…
We were figuring out who we needed to be to be accepted

In dating, that can look like:
over-explaining
over-giving
over-shrinking
just to feel chosen

Halle Berry spoke about the confusion of not fully knowing where she belonged growing up
and how that shaped the way she moved through the world

and the truth is… a lot of us carry that into our relationships

The moment things start to shift
is when you stop asking
“Who do I need to be to be loved?”
and start asking
“Do I even feel safe being myself here?”

❤️

If this resonated, you’re not the only one

We’re having this conversation in real life at our global Mixed Girl Meetup on July 25
