You probably don’t know what I look like… and that’s actually intentional…

I don’t put my face all over social media. Not because I’m hiding, and definitely not because I’m not a real person behind this account!

I just believe that not everything has to be shared online.

I’m a busy mum, business owner, teacher, partner, friend… and a whole person outside of what you see here. I like keeping some of that life private, while still sharing the bits that really matter to me.

So, for those who are new here…hello, I’m Rachel. 👋

I’m a qualified Art teacher, former Head of Art and have spent nearly 20 years working with children and young people across schools, international education and alternative provision.

I now run The Art Room High Peak and Kids Art Club, creating creative opportunities for children and young people through:

GCSE & A Level Art
Home education & alternative provision
After-school art clubs
Saturday Art School
Holiday workshops & camps
1:1 art tuition
Creative projects, competitions & special events

And honestly, it’s so much more than just teaching art.

It’s about giving children somewhere to create, experiment, make mistakes, build confidence and be themselves.

It’s the paint-covered hands. The ridiculous ideas that somehow become brilliant ones. The teenager who suddenly believes they can do it. The child who walks through the door shy and leaves bursting with confidence.

That’s the stuff I want to share. ❤️

So while you might not see my face very often, you’ll see a lot of me in what I create here.

HALLOWEEN HALF -TERM ART WORKSHOPS

This Halloween half term, Kids Art Clubs is bringing some spooky creativity to the studio!

I’ve created four completely different Halloween art workshops, packed with painting, drawing, mixed media, experimentation and imagination. No two sessions are the same, so children can choose their favourites, or come along to all four for the full Halloween art adventure!

WEDNESDAY AM - HALLOWEEN ART LAB - Get experimental with colour, texture, splatters, wax resist, spooky backgrounds and glow effects!

WEDNESDAY PM - WITCH’S WORKSHOP - Create magical witch or wizard characters, potion bottles, spell labels and all sorts of mysterious ingredients!

THURSDAY AM — HAUNTED HOUSE - Explore atmospheric drawing and painting with haunted houses, creepy landscapes, moonlit skies, silhouettes and mysterious windows.

THURSDAY PM - MONSTERS & MISCHIEF - Design your very own monster using drawing, collage and 3D techniques. What strange creature will you create?

Ages 6+ | Morning & afternoon workshops | All materials provided| sketchbooks available to purchase with every booking.

Something we've been thinking about lately…

As someone who spent many years working in and teaching graphic design, I’ve always had the skills to create polished, professional branding and advertising.

But when it comes to children’s art, I genuinely believe that real creativity is far more valuable than something that simply looks perfect. This is something that Pippa from Pipsy Puffin Art Clubs and I both stand firmly behind.

We don’t need to manufacture what creativity looks like. We see it every week.

It’s in the strange little characters children invent, the colours they put together, the experiments that don’t quite go to plan, the completely unexpected ideas, the messy paintings, the detailed drawings and the moments when a child suddenly thinks, “I could do it this way instead.”

That’s the stuff we want to celebrate. ❤️

And yes, we could use AI-generated imagery and perfectly polished graphics to represent our clubs.

But for us, that would feel a little backwards.

Why use an artificial version of children's creativity when we are surrounded by the real thing every single week?

Our children don't need to create “perfect” art for us. They need opportunities to explore, experiment, make choices, develop their own visual language and discover that their ideas are worth something.

That is what we want our art clubs to be about. Real children. Real ideas. Real creativity. And we're very proud of that.

And that’s a wrap on our Saturday Mini Artists Art Competition! ✨🎨

Today was the final day of our competition, and we were so lucky to have the amazing Amy from and our very own Pippa from Pippa Hicks join us to judge all of the incredible entries!

From what I could hear, they found it VERY tough! Every single artwork had something special about it, and choosing the winners was certainly no easy task. 🥰

We’ve now narrowed it down to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each of our groups, and the winners will be contacted this weekend! 🏆

Certificates and prizes can then be collected next Saturday during your usual session. 🎨🏅

So keep a very close eye on your emails… because it could be your little artist taking home 1st place! 👀🏆

A huge thank you to everyone who entered, we have been SO impressed by the creativity, imagination and effort that went into every single piece. 💛

Saturday mornings are getting a little bit autumnal! 🍁

What better way to start the weekend than with paint, pastels & pencils, creativity and a room full of busy little artists!

Today we launched our art competition, inspired by the New Mills Art & Poetry Trail which has started this weekend.

We can’t wait to see all the wonderful, weird, colourful and completely imaginative ideas our Kids Art Club artists come up with!

And a HUGE thank you to Betsy and Joanna Allen for leading our sessions today and helping our artists get stuck into their creative adventures. 💛👏

✨ And just like that… we’re back! 🎨

Our first week back has been such a lovely one and today’s Creative Reset Workshop was the perfect way to ease back into making.

It was wonderful to welcome some new faces, and just as lovely to see our regular students back after the summer holidays. 💛

There was lots of chatting, plenty of new friendships beginning, and of course, lots of creative experimentation! We played, explored, tried new things and reminded ourselves that sometimes the best artwork comes from simply having a go and seeing where it takes you.

No pressure. No perfect outcomes. Just time to create, experiment and enjoy being in the studio. ✨

Wayne Thiebaud inspired art this week at some more of our workshops. We’ve been working on some very exciting sculptures over the last few months. With the help of Joanna Allen Betsy Pippa Hicks - we’re creating a very colourful and delicious exhibition ready for the Art & Poetry trail in New Mills.
