💗 Supporting Splash of Pink

We’re incredibly proud to have Splash of Pink as our charity partner and to support the amazing work they’re doing for breast cancer patients at Macclesfield Hospital.

Splash of Pink was founded by Gena Moors following her own experience of breast cancer treatment at the hospital. Wanting to give something back, Gena turned her experience into something truly positive — raising an incredible £60,000 to help fund a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine for the hospital’s Breast Care Unit.

That machine is now being used every day, helping with early diagnosis and improving care for patients across the local community. 💗

But Splash of Pink has another important goal — raising a further £60,000 for a full-size specimen cabinet for the theatre suite.

This equipment could make a real difference, helping to improve patient experience, reduce time spent under anaesthetic and support greater efficiency during surgery.

We’re so inspired by Gena’s determination and the difference Splash of Pink continues to make. We’re honoured to support such a wonderful local charity and help spread the word about their work.

✨ Meet some of the wonderful makers behind the pieces you’ll find at Thomson & Vosper…

One of the things we love most about our shop is discovering talented independent artists and makers and being able to share their work with you. 💛

🎨 Shaun is an established British artist based in West Yorkshire, creating incredibly detailed wildlife and pet portraits using pencil. With more than 30 years of experience across illustration, design and art direction, Shaun has a real talent for capturing the character and personality of his subjects.

🕯️ Sheila, based in Macclesfield, creates beautiful scented candles, diffusers and charming rustic wooden cottages. Her candle-making journey began when she took over the much-loved Cosy Wren candle business from a close friend, continuing its story while putting her own creative touch on the collection. Her products are full of warmth, character and gorgeous fragrances.

We’re proud to support independent makers and artists, and we love knowing there’s a story, skill and whole lot of passion behind so many of the pieces on our shelves. 🌿

Join us at Thomson & Vosper in beautiful Baslow for a hands-on floristry workshop where you’ll create your very own stunning Christmas table centrepiece. 🌿🌸

Guided by second-generation florist Joanna Price, you’ll learn how to combine fresh blooms, dried botanicals and high-quality artificial flowers and foliage to create a beautiful arrangement full of colour, texture and festive charm.

No previous floristry experience is needed — Joanna will guide you step by step, so it’s a lovely way to spend a few hours getting creative and learning something new.

And the best bit? You’ll take your finished centrepiece home with you, ready to enjoy throughout the festive season. 🎁

💛 Our Story: Meet Liz

Behind Thomson & Vosper is Liz, who took the exciting — and rather scary! — leap to follow a dream.

After 17 years working in Higher Education, Liz decided to leave her full-time career and put all her energy into Thomson & Vosper, a business she originally started in 2024 alongside her job.

She’d always dreamed of having her own shop and loved styling her home, drawing and getting creative. After discovering a love for making lampshades and pendants, she realised that perhaps it was time to turn that creativity into something of her own. ✨

But Thomson & Vosper is about much more than beautiful things for your home. It was created in memory of Liz’s mum and dad, who sadly passed away in 2018. Their kindness, compassion and belief in treating everyone with dignity and respect continue to inspire everything Liz does today.

💭 “I firmly believe that if we have the opportunity to follow our dreams, we should do so.”

From handmaking lampshades and designing fabrics to running the shop in beautiful Baslow, Liz is now following that dream — with kindness, creativity and a whole lot of courage at the heart of it all.

So, if you’ve visited our shop, bought something from us, joined one of our workshops or simply followed along with our journey, thank you. It really does mean so much. 💛

🎄 Christmas workshops are coming to Thomson & Vosper!

If you love getting creative, trying something new or simply getting into the festive spirit, we have a wonderful selection of Christmas-themed workshops and events coming up at our Baslow shop this November and December.

Here’s just a little taste of what’s on offer…

✨ Christmas Collection Preview – Join us for a festive evening of Christmas shopping, Prosecco, mulled w**e, canapés, sweet treats and Christmas tunes, all while helping raise money for our charity partner, Splash of Pink.

🏺 Christmas Spoons & Hanging Ornaments – Get hands-on with clay and create your own beautiful Christmas ceramics, with expert guidance from Dr Lou Wright. This is a two-part workshop where you’ll make, glaze and fire your creations.

🍫 Chocolate Tasting – Join chocolatier Jennie Parkin from White Syke for a delicious journey into the world of fine chocolate, sampling handcrafted chocolates and learning all about cocoa, flavour and chocolate-making.

🎨 Alcohol Ink Baubles – Learn the beautiful, fluid art of alcohol inks with award-winning artist Nichol Stokes and create three unique glass Christmas baubles to take home.

Our Ghost Stories by Candlelight evening at Thomson & Vosper is getting closer, and we still have a few spaces available!

On Saturday 24th October, we’ll be opening the doors after hours for a cosy and atmospheric evening filled with flickering candlelight, haunting tales, delicious food, drinks and a little after-hours shopping.
