Sometimes when it gets crazy busy, it’s easy to forget to look back and remember all the things that have been going on, isn’t it?

Online book club is in its SEVENTH month now, which has honestly just flown by. I actually love putting together the boxes each month, deciding on little treats to include and wrapping each book in a way that hopefully feels like you’re getting a little present in the post every month. 😊

We’ve already kicked off the discussion for Dominion in our private Facebook group, so I’m taking every opportunity to squeeze in a chapter or two. Sadly, none of this has been at the beach 🏖️… yet!

Our first workshop as part of the This Is Your Story project is here! Come and join us HaverHub on Wednesday 12th August where author Kerry Curson of Little Grebe Creative CIC will lead us in this fun, creative session.

A FREE two-hour workshop for 11-16yr olds to explore how to manipulate the rhythm and sounds of words to create their own poetry!

Expect:
✒️Playful readings of inspiring poems
✒️ Fun exercises designed to enhance writing confidence and creativity
✒️ To leave with your own poetry, fresh on the page!

My review of Yesteryear in under three minutes (which is tricky for me, because I’m a chatter).

Giving something new a go, have been wondering about doing reviews for a while but written ones take me an AGE to do so I thought I’d give a reel a go!

Have you read Yesteryear? Would love to hear what you thought (and also whether you’d like to see more books reviews in future… I won’t be offended if you don’t 😂)

I’m also giving you a little flavour here of the sorts of things we discuss in our book clubs; what we thought, what themes we picked up on, whether we’d recommend the book etc. Nothing scary 😉

I’ve accidentally made up two extra online book club parcels for July, and rather than unwrap them and spoil all my hard work, I thought I’d offer them out to you! If you’ve been ‘book club curious’ or sat on the fence about joining our online club, now is your chance to give it a try!

Tomorrow! A whole host of wonderful free activities and talks for adults and children ❤️

One day to go until the Fishguard Literary Festival on Saturday 4th July. We will have events in venues across Fishguard for adults and children. Starting at 10.30am in Fishguard Library and ending in Jemima's Coffee Shop with a spoken word open mic starting at 7.30pm. During the day we have events at The Rowan Tree Gallery and The Bridge Music Shop both Fishguard venues. Any questions DM or email [email protected]

Our Dead Sea Book Club read for July will be Dominion by ae_citchens !

Set in the fictional town of Dominion, Mississippi, at the turn of the millennium, the novel follows the Winfreys, a prominent Black church family whose putative grandeur conceals a deep and hereditary decay.

The book was shortlisted for the 2026 Women's Prize for Fiction, and is classed as ‘Southern Gothic Fiction’.

Where did that person go? The one who used to read in every spare moment, staying up late to ‘just get through this chapter’… and then staying up for three more?

Life. That’s where they went. Jobs, house, kids, husbands, shopping, cleaning, getting your steps in, social scrolling, busy brain that can’t keep quiet. We get it.

You don’t need to become a 3am binge reader but if you’ve been missing that version of you who ‘used’ to read, then I’m here to show you the magic that happens when you make intentional space for it again.

This footage is from our Dead Sea Book Club launch night back in May. Our June meet-up is now full, so put Sat 27th June in your diary if you’re keen to pick up a space for the next one on Thurs 30th July at 6pm.

Did you love our May book club pick By Any Other Name?? (To recap, it’s a fictionalised account of Emilia Bassano, the woman who has been suggested wrote some of Shakespeare’s plays, and her modern day ancestor, who is also a female playwright trying to make it in a male dominated industry.)

If so, here are some suggestions for other books you might enjoy!
🖊️ Hamnet by - if it’s the Shakespeare link that you enjoyed most, Hamnet is a story told from the perspective of his wife and documents the tragic death of their son, Hamnet.
🖊️ Book of Two Ways by - if you loved Jodi’s writing style and are keen to read more of her work, the Book of Two Ways follows a death doula for whom everything changes in an instant
🖊️ Six Tudor Queens by .historian - a series of six books following the lives of each of Henry VIIIs wives. If you enjoyed the ‘history from a woman’s perspective’ and factual links. I loved the Katherine Parr story (but I’ve read them all!!)
🖊️ Shakespeare was a Woman (and other heresies) - the non-fiction pick looking at the evidence behind some of the themes explored in By Any Other Name.
