Not too long til October’s book club boxes will be heading out!

In September we read Pigeon by Alys Conran, a Welsh author and Book of the Year winner 🏆 Here’s a little insight into packing day, which mostly involves me at home, dancing as I wrap 😂

Every box includes the monthly book, a little extra (this month we had an ADORABLE pigeon patch from ), a telegram from me, access to our FB group for discussion and 10% off in our physical and online shop for as long as your subscription is active 😊

Come and meet Pembrokeshire-based children’s author Eloise Williams and celebrate her new book The Library of Lost Stories!

Copies of the book will be available at a special event price of £7.50 (RRP £8.99) and every copy will come with a matching print and bookmark 🥰 Eloise will be on hand for bookish chats and to sign your copies, and the first 15 purchases will also receive a little extra gift (keep your eyes on my stories later this week to see what it is!).

In addition to this, local U16 surfer Alma Rodland-Buick will be hosting a cake sale outside the shop to raise funds for her to attend the European Champs 🙌🏻

The Court awaits… meet at first light ✨

Cancel your plans. Phone in sick. Drop the kids off with the neighbour like we did in the good old days. Because you are not going to want to miss this!

From 8am til 10am on Tuesday 27th October (aka release day) we will be at DrifterTyddewi for you to come and get your copy of the latest ACOTAR installment - a Court of Splintered Harmony. Grab your book, grab an ACOTAR themed drink and a bit of brekkie and read those first few chapters alongside other lovers of the fae. Starting the day right 🙌🏻

What’s more, we’ll have ACOTAR-inspired goodies and quizzes! How much better can a Tuesday morning get?!

When I joined my first book club back in 2022 with Bethany ⚡️ Magic Through Movement, I really could never have foreseen how much it would change my life!!

And maybe it won’t change yours in quite the same way as it did mine, but if you’ve been on the fence about trying out a book club, today is the perfect day to take that leap and book yourself in - there are options for everyone, from genre-specific clubs, clubs linked to libraries and bookshops, huge national clubs that meet in the 100s, online clubs that meet via Zoom or chat using an app or FB group, subscription clubs and not forgetting clubs that are simply a group of friends meeting for a drink and a chat about reading ❤️

Apparently, I can’t just read one book at a time… I mean, how many is too many? I’m just asking for a friend. 😏

I’m definitely ready for my cosy autumn reading era with this current bedside table stack (please do not judge my sad spider plant, I did water him after this - cute little terracotta worm courtesy of Vine & Vibe 🌱 ).

Here’s where I’m reading, and where I’m at with each book:

📖 1. ACOTAR - 150/419 pages read. I have given into peer pressure and finally started this series… can I finish all five in time for no. 6 release day?? Probably not. Will I try? Yes. Yes I will.
📖 2. Pigeon - 252/252. This months book club read. I’ve finished it. I really enjoyed it, and it’s staying on the table cos it has all my notes in ready for online book club discussion, which starts on Thursday 🎉
📖 3. Switzy - 25/336. A proof copy of this Booker nominated title. I’ve skim read the first chapter and I’m intrigued, so will start this soon. It’s out now in hardback so you can grab a copy in the shop 👍🏻
📖 4. Nurturing Your Young Autistic Person - on loan from a friend. I’m dipping in and out as needed with this one, as my daughter awaits her autism assessment. A whole new world to us but one that is making a lot of sense to our family.
📖 5. The Way Out - this one’s for me! It’s all about rethinking chronic pain and its origins. I’m hoping it will help with my crazy migraines. Again, dipping in and out of this
📖 6. One Hundred Nights of Hero - 2 chapters in. I’m screening this graphic novel to see if it’s suitable for Penny (age 11) after it came highly recommended by a customer!
📖 7. The Elsewhere Express - not started. I LOVED Watermoon and this is the next book by the same author. It also has beautiful starry sprayed edges so it gets to stay on the stack even though I haven’t started it 😍

So tell me - can you beat six books on the go at once?! (Haven’t even delved in to the Kindle graveyard of partially completed books 🤦‍♀️)

🍦 September’s book of the month is here! 🍦

I’m super excited for this month’s read as we’ve chosen a book that was published simultaneously in English and Welsh, which means you get to choose which language you read it in 🙌🏻

As a Wales-based book club it’s super important to me that we read Welsh authors in Dead Sea Book Club, and I realised that we’re rapidly heading towards the end of the year without having yet done so!!

So our first Welsh-authored book club pick is Pigeon (or Pijin in Welsh) by Alys Conran. We will be reading this in our online and St Davids book clubs - links in the bio for details of both 😊 It’s a former Wales Book of the Year winner, and I think it’s perfect for a ‘back to school’ theme, following two kids growing up in North Wales in the 90s - get ready for some nostalgia!

There’s still time to join online book club if you’d like this to be your first read with us (you have until the 31st, as I post out parcels on the 1st 👍🏻). September is a great time to join as we head into the cosy autumn season; ideal for curling up with a book 😊
