A charming vintage Japanese-style musical jewellery box, beautifully decorative and full of character.

The box is finished in black lacquer with hand-painted Oriental landscape decoration, featuring a pagoda scene, trees, water and small sailing boats. The lid is further decorated with a colourful scenic panel, while the interior opens to reveal a fitted mirror and blue velvet-style compartments for jewellery, keepsakes and small treasured pieces.

The box also features a musical movement, adding extra charm and nostalgia.

A handsome early 20th-century oak sideboard with warm colour, substantial proportions and a wonderful level of carved detail.

The front is arranged with three central drawers flanked by two cupboards, each featuring moulded arched panel with carved floral decoration. A scrolling carved frieze, shaped apron and turned front supports add interest to this gorgeous sideboard.

The raised gallery adds further architectural interest, while the brass fittings sit beautifully against the mellow oak. An impressive yet practical piece for a dining room, hallway or living space.

The sideboard retains makers label for Gardner & Son Ltd Glasgow, a particularly lovely detail connecting the piece to Glasgow’s furnishing history.

The warm grain of the timber is framed by moulded detailing, with a carved leaf border running around the upper edge. It stands on four cabriole legs, finished with carved acanthus knees and traditional ball-and-claw feet—details that give the piece a refined character.
