Today, on the repair bench, we have a lovely little saddle where the side panels have started to separate. Have sorted a few of these so it's worth checking your saddles for any stitching that's come loose before it runs up even further - as it shows in image 2. Also have a headpiece which is going to be a little harder and needs a bit of thought first. The leather has split on the padding cover, which is usually sheep skin. Super way to spend a Sunday afternoon after being out playing with the giant pony over the show jumps this morning. Happy Sunday 🥰

Remember the chewed headcollar? The tasty part has been replaced. Very happy with this repair. The whole headcollar has been given a good dosing of Abbey England Ltd. 1982 balm (it's blooming gorgeous) and ready to head back to the neddy head.

This week, on The Repair Bench...

A pal's ponio decided to chew his lovely leather headcollar's chin strap...whilst wearing it! At a bit of a loss as to how! No matter, a new chin strap is in the making.
Next on the list is a teeny repair on a set of reins for another buddy. These reins have been about for years and the stitches by the bit end have decided they no longer want to stay put.
I love doing repairs. Not only is it great to see the items back in action, it saves stuff simply being replaced and going in the bin. Leather items can last decades if they're looked after. Yes, they might need the odd repair but that's just part of the process. I'm not asking for all of your repairs as there are many able to help with this. A repair could save you many a penny.

A few folk have asked me to repair boots but have never tried. I them remembered I had a pair I could practice on as one...

A few folk have asked me to repair boots but have never tried. I them remembered I had a pair I could practice on as one of the zips had the teeth come away from the webbing. Lucky for me, both zips now need replacing 🤣. Extra practice, I suppose.

Farrier chaps patched and ready to go. These were a PEST to get through the machine, lots of wrangling with the leg not being worked on. However, all done, reinforced where the knife hits and ready to get back to work.

Have a pair of farrier chaps to repair. Amazing what they've collected along the way 🤣.
