We’re making a few changes in the coming week we wanted to share with you:

Firstly, Fraser has headed off to an exciting new role and will be putting his encyclopedic knowledge of b**r to excellent use at the fabulous Bristol brewery, Lost and Grounded. We are incredibly grateful for his knowledge, passion, commitment and the fun he’s brought to the shop.

Unfortunately, we have decided to stop trading as The Hop Shop, and will be closing the space on Sunday evening.

We are very proud of our vibrant little store, with its huge range of different specialist drinks, and have loved serving all our loyal customers.

However, there just isn’t enough regular trade to sustain it, particularly with increasing costs and tough headwinds coming this way. The Hop Shop will be open normally with Alison running the show until then, so please come down at the weekend to snap up some bargains in the w**e and c***r department.

After which, you can pop in during pub hours next week if you need anything to take away, and we’ll happily serve you from there.

We have some ideas and plans for the future of the space that we are currently exploring and we’ll let you know what we are able to do, as soon as we know.

Nothing changes for The Hop Inn at all, and off-sales of selected b**r, c***r and w**e will still be available through the pub, as always, and if you want to get hold of some special spirit or liquor, we can still help.

Hi all!

Just a quick update from me (Fraser), today is my last day working at the shop.

I’ve had an amazing time running this little place since we opened last year, but new adventures await and I’m super excited for a new challenge.

It’s been great fun stocking, serving, posting, recommending and chatting with our lovely regulars, so thank you to all of you for making it so enjoyable.

You’ll still be seeing me around in the pub, just this time as a customer!

We haven’t had a bad b**r from them since we first got hold of their b**rs last year.

Hazy and juicy with the freshest hops, always well-balanced and always incredibly drinkable.

They’re a brewery that we rate very highly and we’re excited to see how they grow!

🟠 It’s an orange w**e kind of day…

And what better than this Naranjo Torontel from **ery, located in the Loncomilla Valley in the heart of central Chile.

It’s made using the pink-ish skins of Torontel grapes, grown on heritage vines of almost 80 years old.

The w**e is incredibly aromatic, with candied peel and honey on the nose leading on to a lovely palate of fresh bitter orange and spice.

It's a deliciously juicy and friendly orange w**e, and a great one to try if you're just getting to know the style.

We don’t just champion UK c***rmakers, especially when there’s and his delicious Normandy c***rs and perries.

Eric had previously worked as a sommelier at the Michelin-starred Arpege restaurant in Paris, before taking over a small patch of orchards in Charchigné in the early 90’s.

He’s definitely taken a w**emakers approach to making c***r, with each release a unique expression of the terroir and the quality of the fruit of that vintage.

Currently in stock we have the Sidre Brut, a dry, sparkling c***r made from as many as 15 different varieties, with a richness and an intensity that make it the ideal pairing for a meat or a cheeseboard.

Alongside the Brut we have the Poiré Authentic, a sparkling perry with an amazing depth of fruit character and a precision that is noticeably impressive throughout the range.

Both are made organically using fruit from unsprayed orchards, and both have that lovely gentle mousse that you often get from petillant style sparkling c***rs.

Chances are he’s your favourite c***rmakers favourite c***rmaker, so you might want to give these a go.

☀️ Fancying a delicious white w**e to enjoy with a meal in the sun?

Then how about this from , one of the finest estates in the Mosel, Germany.

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard is not only regarded as one of the best vineyards in the Mosel, but as the producer of some of the most elegant and delicate w**es in the world.

Put those together and you get this amazing Auslese, made from 100% Riesling picked in the autumn of 2017 during an outstanding vintage.

The w**e is incredibly well rounded. It has all the bright, zippy acidity that you would expect, with additional layers of caramelised stone fruits and floral notes.

This one will age well, so if you have the discipline to lay it down for a few years then you will be rewarded with further complexity in the aromas and flavours of this wonderful w**e.

🇫🇷 3 Monts Bière de Flandre

We have a wonderful b**r in from French brewery , who are situated in Flanders right on the Belgian border.

An 8.5% biere de garde, it’s a strong farmhouse ale that is designed to be kept as it will develop complexity over time.

The b**r is bright golden with an aromatic ye**ty nose. The body is rich and smooth, with floral complexity and some hop bitterness.

The finish is long and bready with some boozy warmth leaving you feeling very satisfied.

It’s a 75cl bottle, so perfect for sharing over an evening with friends and letting the conversation flow around it. Cheers!
