Woodgreen Pets Charity Keeping pets and their people together – this is how we rescue. Woodgreen is dedicated to helping pets and their people every step of the way.

We exist to ensure that every pet can have a healthy and happy home, and for every owner to get the practical, hands-on support they need to make this possible. We want all pets to live happy, fulfilling lives, and we do everything we can to make that a reality. Any pet that comes to our Centre is given specialist care which meets their individual needs. And when they’re ready, we find them the perfect match – their second chance at happiness. As well as finding loving homes for vulnerable pets, we also provide a number of vital services to support humans, so that they can be the best pet owners they can be. This includes expert advice on the phone and online, as well as workshops, classes and community support. As seen on Channel 4’s ‘The Dog House’, Woodgreen’s Centre is based in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, where we care for dogs, cats, and small animals. Everything we do is funded through our generous supporters – we receive no government funding.

Little star Nova had a tough start – found alongside her litter mates. But she didn’t have to wait long for a fresh beginning, and home life is clearly suiting her well!

She’s been throwing herself into training and has already mastered sit, down and follow. She’s also the undisputed queen of spin – a very clever girl indeed.

Nova has been doing her best to make friends with resident cat Cleo. She’s full of enthusiasm, while Cleo prefers to take things a little more slowly – but they’re starting to find their groove.

And when she isn’t perfecting her tricks or working on her cat diplomacy skills, she’s enjoying trips to the local pet food shop and woodland walks close to home.

New owner Katharine says she can’t wait for all the adventures ahead together – and we couldn’t be happier to see Nova off to such a shining start in a new home.

Dolly came into Woodgreen’s care when her previous owner was struggling with the number of pets in their home.

She’s since scampered off to a new home with Zoe and her family, where she’s quickly won everyone over — including all their friends. She’s one sociable lady! 💚

Whether she’s enjoying plenty of fuss or starting a game of chase, Dolly keeps the whole family entertained. We think she looks very happy with her fresh start!

A few months ago, Kit found a home with Chloe and her partner. He took a little time to adjust, but now it’s like having a pet, a comedian, and a best friend all rolled into one sassy tuxedo cat.

He has plenty of sleeping spots – but his favourite place is anywhere Chloe is. Kit also insists on nightly lap cuddles before bed.

He makes sure everyone knows he’s around with his chirps and meows. Our top moment from Chloe’s update? The time he interrupted her fiancé’s proposal – leaving them both in stitches!

Oh, and apparently cobweb accessories are all the rage this season.

When ten-year-old Lucy came to Woodgreen, everything was new. Her owner had become unwell and could no longer care for her, and this shy girl needed some help with her own health too.

Lucy weighed almost 9kg – around twice her ideal weight – and needed to slim down before she could safely have a dental operation. She also had chin acne and a coat in need of some TLC.

While Lucy settled into a carefully controlled diet, her carers groomed her coat and gently cleaned her chin each day. She spent plenty of time tucked away in her hiding spots at first, but soon began popping out for a fuss and making friends with her carers.

Once Lucy’s weight started coming down, she found a new home with someone who was looking for an older cat and was happy to continue her diet. Just one month later, she had lost another kilogram and was ready to return to Woodgreen for the dental treatment she needed. She still has a little way to go, but she's off to a brilliant start!

The summer holidays are nearly over, and for some dogs, going back to school can mean a quieter house, less play during the day, and more time by themselves. Walks, meals and toilet breaks might change too – which can leave some dogs feeling bored or unsettled.

A few small steps can help:

🐾 Gradually move walks and meals back to their usual times
🐾 Practise leaving them for short periods, building up slowly
🐾 Try a calm, sniffy walk before you leave
🐾 Leave safe enrichment, such as a stuffed Kong, to keep their brain busy
🐾 Use a pet camera or ask someone to pop in and check on them

Flump settled into life at Woodgreen pretty quickly. He loved meeting new people and was always ready for his next adventure. The only problem? We needed him to slow down!

Our Veterinary team noticed that his back leg would sometimes buckle underneath him, causing him to drag his paw. His hips were also very loose, and he would sit with all his weight on one side. X-rays confirmed he had a luxating patella – a condition where the kneecap slips out of place. He'd need an op, but at 35kg, chunky boy Flump first needed to lose some weight so he could safely have a general anaesthetic.

While long walks were off the cards, our teams kept him busy with training, snuffle mats and plenty of long-lasting chews. It worked – he lost almost a kilogram in his first week.

Flump soon found a new home with Fran, who was smitten from day one. She helped him continue his brilliant progress before bringing him back to Woodgreen for his operation in February.

Thankfully, everything went well and he’s now very busy living his very best life. What a journey, Flump!

Eleven-year-old Cookie came to Woodgreen after his loving owner, who was struggling with memory problems, had unintentionally overfed him – leading to weight gain. With Cookie's best interests at heart, they handed him over to us so he could get the help he needed.

When Cookie arrived, he could barely move – he waddled when he walked, couldn’t jump at all, and his joints were clearly causing him pain. Our team created a special diet plan and sent him to a foster home, where he could move more and receive daily care, including pain relief for his arthritis.

It wasn’t a quick fix – but slowly and safely, Cookie began to shed the weight. Week by week, he became more mobile, more comfortable and more confident. Nine months later, he’d dropped to a lean 4.7kg and was living life to the full in a new home.
