For sale: a lovely, beautiful playing Vintage V6 in laguna blue.

Half of all proceeds go to Breast Cancer Now.

Ground base plate corner provides authentic looks. The ‘push-in’ delrin-bushed arm with variable tension provides the arm feel that suits your style. This was a classic unwanted gift that was barely used.

This is a high quality copy of a famous style of electric guitar launched by you know who in 1961. It compares very favourably in quality to models like the Epiphone SG G400 and Vintage VS6 and was, for some time, considerably better than both.

Fully recommissioned and being sold to raise money for Breast Cancer Now and to clear some space for some other projects, including a very tasty Westfield Les Paul E4500.

Like most of my listings, 50% (HALF) of all proceeds will go directly to Breast Cancer Now.

The guitar has been cleaned, serviced, completely set up with the fingerboard nourished, frets polished, restrung with high quality strings (10 gauge) and the intonation set.

One machinehead has been replaced with a standard style one as I did not have a tulip style in stock. This makes no difference to how it plays and it is barely noticeable.

It plays beautifully and is in excellent overall condition, though has some marks and light play wear.

See photos for condition as they are part of the description but do ask if you have any questions.

Any reasonable offer considered – but bear in mind I'm including free postage and the guitar will be despatched in a new box.

As with most of my listings, this is a charity listing with 50% (HALF) of all proceeds going directly to Breast Cancer Now.

Epiphone sold loads of the Les Paul Special-II during the almost 25 years they were available. It is a great starter guitar for beginners or those – especially younger students – who are interested in a Les Paul but can't handle the weight.

Experienced players and seasoned pros also love the Special-II because it's just a great-sounding workhorse of a guitar that allows them to leave their more expensive instruments at home.

This has been serviced, set up with frets polished, restrung with high quality strings and intonation set.

Specifications
Neck: SlimTaper C neck profile bolt on neck, 24.75 inch scale length, laurel fretboard , 12 inch fingerboard radius, with 22 medium frets and 43mm nut width
Body: mahogany body in gloss black
Hardware: Epiphone LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge & tailpiece
Pickups: Epiphone 650R humbucker (neck) and Epiphone 700T humbucker (bridge)
Controls: master volume, master tone, 3-way toggle pickup selector

Overall condition is excellent, with a few marks and wear on some chrome plating from play.

I'm including free postage, so bear that in mind if you want to make an offer. But don't bother with a 'cheeky' offer, as I won't accept it. You can go and buy one of the unloved, abused and downright dirty ones out there – there are plenty of them.

The guitar has been cleaned, serviced, completely set up with the fingerboard nourished, frets polished, restrung with high quality strings (10 gauge) and the intonation set. I also replaced the non-mathing neck pickup someone had fitted with an Ephiphone humbucker with a chrome cover.

The bad bits
There was a chip out of the front showing the mahogany under the finish (see pic 3). I've drop filled it with some cherry nitrocellulose just to disguise the damage.

I've also reinforced around the jack socket with a washer as there was a tiny crack in the wood.

One machinehead has also been replaced with a standard style one as I did not have a tulip style in stock. This makes no difference to how it plays and it is barely noticeable.

I heard the news today, oh boy....

Just found out that another one has gone and far, far too young.

Ian Bairnson was born in Lerwick, in Shetland and lived in Levenswick before his family moved to Edinburgh when he was about nine.

But who was he, you ask? Well, for those of you familiar with The Alan Parsons Project, Bairnson was responsible for so many of those tasteful, yet perfect guitar solos that absolutely made the song.

Before that, he was a session musician before forming Pilot with a Fresh bassist and a high roller of the Bay City kind.

Never heard of them? You have. They had a big hit with Magic from their first album (produced by Alan Parsons).

Anyway, Bairnson moved on from that to APP, worked with 10cc, oh and you may have heard some of his stuff when working with some girl called Kate Bush. Heard of her? He played on The Kick Inside, Lionheart, Never for Ever and The Dreaming.

Those two fantastic guitar solos on Wuthering Heights are his work, by the way.

Bairnson ran a studio in Spain for a decade until 2013, then returned to the UK to work as a session guitarist. But his career was cut short by a degenerative neurological disorder that resulted in dementia. He died on 7 April 2023, aged just 69.

It's hard for me to pick a favourite. I love the funky I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You from I Robot, Prime Time from Ammonia Avenue, or The Games People Play on The Turn of a Friendly Card.

He was an understated guitarist, but always had the right line at the right time.

I would love to have heard the master from the recording of his solo on Silence and I, as it is only just getting going as it is faded out.

I guess I'll pick the solo from Eye in the Sky, which is not only a fantastic song, but great album.

Requiescat in pacem Iain Bairnson.

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A STARTER/STUDENT GUITAR, LOOK NO FURTHER!

If you're looking for entry level/student guitar, I always have a number of Squier Stratocasters, Yamaha Pacificas, Encore S type guitars, plus Wesleys, Westfields and others waiting to be prepared for new owners.

Drop me a line if you're looking for a guitar for a son, daughter, niece, nephew, friend – or even yourself.

Sensible prices for second hand guitars that play better than brand new straight from the shop. Don't believe me? Come and try one out.

I have a number of items on ebay at the moment (see link below).

HALF (50%) of all proceeds go directly to Breast Cancer Now.

We have raised thousands of pounds for the charity in recent years with the help of our customers. These guitars help to save lives.

I also have a Schaller Western sound hole pickup for an acoustic guitar. It's a nice thing, in working order, and I've included a new strap button jack socket so you can get it sorted out straight away.

That can also be found on ebay.

Made in Germany in the 1980s/1990s – not sure when. As the jack had to be removed in order to release the pickup, I have left that on the guitar and include a new strap pin jack socket so you have everything you need – except a soldering iron – to get it working straight away.

Sorry I've not been posting on here.

I've been busy with work since I got back from holiday – when I COULD work, that is – but I have a couple of things up for sale on ebay.

The first is a lovely early Squier Showmaster HSS, in blue, with the matching reverse headstock and Floyd Rose.

It has a few marks, but nothing awful and is in excellent condition.

I sold an equally rare 1999 v1.2 HSH Squier Stagemaster last year in the same colour, reverse headstock with the Floyd Rose.

I think I like this one better, as the pickups are surface mounted like my old Aria Pro II JX-3.

Still, it's a nice guitar, someone will get a bargain and we'll send more money to charity.

Restrung with high quality strings (D'Addario XL120s –0.009 gauge strings) and i ntonation set. NB In case you weren't sure, the white marks on the front and back pics of the guitar are reflections of my kitchen lights, not marks on the guitar itself.
