A recent post by an overseas facebook friend whereby she had sadly received an item damaged in the post has re-focused me on how important a part of the selling process the actual packing and addressing is. Someone sent me three teapots a few years back just wrapped in newspaper and a photocopier paper box! needless to say I received a lot of teapot pieces that day. Luckily my years of Post Office/Royal Mail customer service work have served me well (I recall being 'taught' how to examine packages for damage) and I make sure that I only use new sturdy double wall boxes, two (yes two!) types of packaging peanuts (hard for packing, soft to fill) two types of bubble (small to protect handles, large to cushion) and three types of tape (small for delicate items, parcel tape to seal and gaffer tape to protect) this may all sound a little OTT but I am confident that wherever my china travels (Art Deco platter to Alaska for example) it will arrive in the exact same lovely condition that it was despatched! Here's an example of a Beautiful Art Nouveau set that I shan't worry about packing at all!
