The bright spring weather has been great for the grafted fruit trees with excellent take rates and onward growth. We start all of our trees under cover while they heal, and then harden them off and get them outside as soon as possible, with the first Pears now outside. Hessle and Onward Pear are looking excellent this year, with our first ever Shinseiki Asian Pears very happy too! Night time temperatures down to 1c this week and bursts of hail are of concern though for new growth, we will take the damp and overcast forecast as it stands!

The fruit tree grafts are looking good in our new dedicated polytunnel. Despite the wet and cloudy April (one of the wettest on record already), the grafts have been healing and sending through the buds. Looks like next week is set fair, it will be nice to get some heat in the polytunnel and get everything moving along at a bit more of a pace! Based on the strong demand, we have grafted many more Quince, Medlar, Plum and Pears. Don’t worry, we still have hundreds of apples of over 50 varieties!

As well as the wide choice of apple trees, we still have hundreds of native trees and shrubs in stock. This is the last week we can supply bare-rooted trees, so please get your orders in. Prices range from £1.25 for Birch and Alder to £2.50 for Holly and Juniper. Full range listed on our website, enquire for availability, first come first served! We have a small number of potted trees too, including numerous varieties of vigorous Willows, Sycamores and Poplars.

We still have 30 varieties of apple for sale! All trees are one year old maiden trees, hand grafted and outside grown on our croft with care (and no chemicals!) in Sleat. We have sold out of plums, pears, quince and medlar but have grafted many more! We are hoping to offer Asian (Nashi) pears for sale this autumn too. All varieties listed on the Drumfearn Trees website.
