Our adult book group read for October is the epic period Western 🐎Amity🐎. Set in 1866 Louisiana, it follows the parallel journeys of siblings Coleman and June to find the freedom promised them. Though no longer enslaved by law they are still in thrall to their old master, Wyatt Harper, who is deeply infatuated with June. The ways of the South are gradually dying out and, when Harper leaves his family to embark on a fantastical scheme to make a new fortune in Mexico, he takes June with him. Coleman and June are separated for the first time in their young lives; will they ever find their way back to each other?

Happy Book Club day! We host 4 monthly book clubs with a little something for everyone and embrace all reading interests! But today we'd like to draw your attention to our book club for readers aged 8-11, affectionately named Pageturners, because we (finally!) have some spaces available.

Regular members Elsie, Tilly and Selena had plenty of recommendations at our September meeting, and Elsie even got to meet author Sue Cheung! They're looking forward to October's meeting already, when we'll be discussing Mika Song's latest graphic novel 🍳Night Chef🍳 and trying our hand at cartooning. Our Pageturners meet the first Thursday of the month at 4.30 for an hour of bookish fun, so take a look and book online or chat to us instore about our next meeting on October 1st! 📚🤗📖🔖

We are so delighted to welcome Women’s Prize for Fiction short-listed authors Marcia Hutchinson, author of 💚The Mercy Step💚 and Rozie Kelly, author of
🕊Kingfisher🕊 to an evening celebrating two of the year’s most powerful debut novels. They will be in conversation, discussing their West Yorkshire roots and writing journeys during an evening that is, dare we say, guaranteed to inspire!

Marcia Hutchinson’s 💚The Mercy Step💚 was published to critical acclaim in 2025 and is inspired by her childhood growing up in Manningham, Bradford.

Based on some recent conversations in shop, you lot are absolutely thrilled that school is finally back! Wishing all mini readers starting school and returning to school a lovely first day, full of books and learning. No doubt the school bags will soon be chock full of new books for class reading and from school libraries!

We've been working hard with schools already during the holidays to get lots of brand new books into classrooms. We're hoping to make this academic year a record breaker, and supply more schools with books than we ever have before, so if you're a teacher, headteacher or PTA member and would like to work together, get in touch anytime! 🤗📚🍎✏️

Not sure about you lot, but we're ready to say a firm goodbye to summer, and to speed it's departure along we've rounded up the season's top 10 bestsellers! 👋🔟
This year, both the Booker International and Women's Prize for Fiction winners have sold incredibly well, as has the Indie Book Awards fiction winner! Yesteryear is STILL going strong as well, and a few Booker Prize longlist nominees are creeping up in sales, too. Keighley hasn't shut up about Moderation, so she's been hand selling that quite aggressively😅. Our children's bestsellers have less rhyme and reason, but OF COURSE there's a Lottie Brooks in there, and a Bunny v Monkey too. Have any of these made your summer reading list? We hope the 🤞🏼actual weather🤞🏼 will match the vibe of our local guest poet's collection, 🌧cold wet windy🌧 at out next quarterly open mic evening. Come along to appreciate the spoken word, share your own creativity in a welcoming space and browse our diverse poetry section.

This time we welcome local poet Molly Ovenden, a contemplative typewriter poet and painter. She writes and performs poems for people at their request, usually in live settings, on-the-spot with her vintage typewriter. When she's not writing, she's coaching, reading, laughing, smiling, eating, drinking tea and coffee, painting, daydreaming, training for marathons, doing yoga, or going for circular walks.
