We’re delighted to welcome to Pole Star Gallery!

There’s something really special about spotting wildlife when you’re out walking. An owl overhead, a hare in the distance, a deer amongst the trees. Ashley’s work captures that feeling so beautifully and makes you notice those quieter moments in nature.

Ashley combines hand drawn illustration with cyanotype, using sunlight and a light sensitive process to create that deep blue background. The white detail against the blue works so well with his wildlife drawings and really brings out the feathers, fur and movement in each piece.

A lot of Ashley’s inspiration comes from time spent walking the fells and noticing the smaller details around him, from the shapes of plants to the movement of ferns and changes in light.

We’ve got a lovely range of Ashley’s prints in the gallery at the moment, featuring some very familiar faces from the Cumbrian landscape. Pop in and have a look next time you’re in Keswick. 💙

Our easels have been displaying some gorgeous artwork recently! 🎨

We have two striking canvases by Lily Greenwood in the gallery at the moment, Butterflies on Pale Greens/Grey and Koi Flow.

Lily’s mixed media work is instantly recognisable, bringing together painted, textured backgrounds with incredibly detailed imagery. Butterflies on Pale Greens/Grey has a much softer, lighter palette, allowing the colour and movement of the butterflies to take centre stage, while Koi Flow is richer and more dramatic, with koi moving through deep blues, greens and warmer tones.

Both pieces are now live on our website, along with a selection of Lily’s other work currently available. We’ll link them in our story, or pop in to see them in the gallery.

C L A I R E J O has been back to the Lakes and delivered us some beautiful new paintings. 🤍

There’s something so captivating about Claire’s use of colour. From a distance, her landscapes feel calm and familiar, but the closer you look, the more they come alive. Cerulean blues and luminous greens weave their way through the fells and water, with soft ochres catching the light and settling into every ridge, rock and river.

Working with layers of paint, expressive mark making and delicate scratched lines, Claire builds each landscape with incredible energy. Those subtle marks trace the contours of the land, giving a real sense of movement and depth, while her unexpected colour combinations create paintings that feel both recognisable and wonderfully atmospheric.

These latest arrivals are a beautiful reminder that the Lake District is never just one colour. Each painting captures a different mood, inviting you to pause and look a little longer.

We’ll be adding them to our website very soon, so keep an eye on our story for the link. If one has already caught your eye, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or pop into the gallery. We’d be delighted to help. 🤍

We’re delighted to welcome Robyn Kinsman Blake to Pole Star Gallery. 🌙

After graduating in Jewellery and Silversmithing from Edinburgh College of Art, Robyn has been creating handcrafted sterling silver jewellery from her family gallery and studio. Her collection is full of beautifully considered details, with each piece carefully made by hand.

Inspired by the stories found in nature, Robyn’s jewellery captures graceful swallows in flight, curious hares beneath the moon and delicate botanical details in beautifully handcrafted sterling silver. Every piece feels full of movement, imagination and quiet charm, inviting its own little fairytale to unfold.

Wherever possible, Robyn uses recycled and ethically sourced materials, creating jewellery that is as thoughtful in its making as it is in its design. We’re so excited to share her collection with you and can’t wait for you to discover these beautifully crafted pieces in the gallery!

The tiniest walkers in the Lake District have arrived. 🐭🐑

Complete with maps of the Lakes, trusty walking sticks and little backpacks, these charming mice look ready to head off on their next fell walk. The tiny details remind us so much of our own adventures, setting off to explore, discovering new views and making memories along the way.

Their woolly sheep friends are just as well prepared, carrying little hampers filled with tea and biscuits, while others are wrapped up with cosy woolly hats and a bag of Kendal Mint Cake. It’s all those thoughtful finishing touches that make each character so full of personality.

Lovingly handmade by Cable & Blake from Lake District wool in a beautiful range of natural and vibrant colours, every mouse and sheep is completely unique. They capture so many of the simple pleasures that make exploring the Lakes so special, from peaceful walks on the fells to a well-earned cup of tea with a view.

We can’t help but smile every time we walk past them. Which little character would you choose? 🤍

Some combinations just work so beautifully together💐🪵

There’s something incredibly calming about filling our homes with natural materials. The warmth and character of handcrafted wood, paired with the softness of dried flowers, creates a space that feels timeless, welcoming and connected to the outdoors.

We couldn’t wait to style Doug Morris’ beautiful new handcrafted rustic table with The Pretty Wild Flower Co.’s everlasting bouquets. Thoughtfully grown, naturally dried and arranged to celebrate the changing seasons, their flowers preserve all of their delicate textures and subtle colours, bringing the beauty of nature indoors all year round.

Alongside the new table, Doug has also brought us a fresh collection of handcrafted boards in beautiful timbers including oak and birch. Every piece showcases the natural grain and character of the wood, meaning no two are ever the same.

Together, these handcrafted pieces complement one another so effortlessly, creating a display full of warmth, texture and the quiet beauty of the natural world.

It’s always such a treat when a delivery arrives from the lovely .b_ceramics 🤍

Her handcrafted sheep and Highland cows are full of personality, each one bringing its own unique character to the gallery. Using the ancient Japanese technique of Raku, every piece is removed from the kiln while still glowing hot before being placed into natural combustible materials. This rapid cooling and smoking process creates beautifully unpredictable crackles, smoky tones and metallic finishes, making every piece completely one of a kind.

No two are ever the same, and that’s exactly what makes them so special. We have a wonderful selection of Lucy’s sheep and Highland cows in the gallery at the moment, each with its own distinctive expression and finish. ✨

Pop in for a browse, or explore a selection of Lucy’s work on our website. We’ll be sharing a direct link in our stories following this post. 🤍

Meet some of our favourite gallery residents… 🐑🤍

If you’ve visited us before, there’s a good chance you’ve already said hello to our sheep stools. They’ve become a familiar sight in the gallery, and they certainly keep us company throughout the day!

Beautifully handcrafted from genuine sheepskin, each stool is completely unique, with its own character, markings and wonderfully soft fleece. We also offer a cotton twist option, giving the same charming design in a different finish. They’re not just adorable to look at either. These furry friends are sturdy, practical footstools, perfect for putting your feet up or adding a touch of warmth and personality to any home.

These are just a few of the flock currently waiting to meet you, with plenty more colours, different animals and personalities in the gallery. 🐑

If one has caught your eye, we’d be happy to help. We can safely post out to you, or you’re very welcome to collect from the gallery. Just pop us an email with any enquiries about our furry friends. ✨🤍
