Well, I'm sad to say that the time has come to shut Corylus down.

It was never my intention to just make hair barrettes, they were only ever meant to be a small thing to get me going, but there's not much point continuing whilst I'm unable to make new things.

A huge thank you to all my amazing customers, followers and friends - Corylus would never have even got this far without you.

I will be back, at this time I don't know when that will be - but I will be right here when I am!

I finally got to show my dodgy arm off to a proper medical type person yesterday! No great surprises tbh, repetitive strain injury leading to pain, inactivity, weakness, and back to pain!

It's a circle of pain that needs to be broken. Here's hoping that in a couple of months significant progress will have been made! 💪🏻

Here are the final few hazel leaf barrettes I have left! This has been the most popular shape I have made, and once I'm back up and running again I will only be making these, and the willow barrettes.

This is my favourite barrette, and I'm sorely tempted to keep it for myself if it doesn't sell!

I just love the colours, it's the most realistic leaf I've been able to create yet.

I've found it's really hard to create a light green, and I never know how it's going to turn out until I just do it!

As you may already know, due to the injury to my arm I'm not currently able to create anything from leather and it is really rather annoying.

I am planning to close Corylus down at the end of the month and once I am fit start up again, making the things I always wanted to be making in the first place!

Some of the listings start ending from Monday the 11th, so get in there quick if there's something you've had your eye on!

I'm still very excited by Corylus, but I have to take some time to fix myself, and time away from socials will be a part of that.

I had my hair cut a few weeks ago, and so now I'm a bit gutted that it's a bit short to be able to wear my hair up in my hazel barrette properly. If you'd have been in the woods with me when I was taking these photos* you'd have heard a lot of muttering and swearing as trying to keep my hair up when it wanted to be down, with only one pair of arms which are short like a T-rex was bloody tricky!

Perfect for hair slightly longer than mine, curly hair and anyone who loves to be different, these hazel barrettes really stand out.

*the 2nd photo was taken in the winter when my hair was longer. I was swearing in the woods then too 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm no stylist or hair model, obviously, and quite frankly I find doing my hair to be a chore. Those who know me know my hair spends most of its time up and out of my face, so if I can use one of these things then so can you! 😂

These beech barrettes suit my hair the best, because of the length and thickness. They're a great hair band cover, but also the right size for me to be able to go hair band (and plastic) free when I wear my hair in its usual ponytail.

These little willow barrettes are so versatile. A perfect hair band cover, or if you prefer and have thick enough hair, they can be used without a band.

I found that twisting my hair up into a half up/half down 'do was surprisingly easy and it stayed put for ages too!

It took a bit of practice, and it was never the same twice, but I quite like that.

We are utterly surrounded by stuff that has been made by machines, and made with synthetic materials.

More and more people are trying to head away from that, and towards natural fibres and handmade things.

The leather I use is tanned with natural plant tannins, worked using hand tools, and the barrettes are plastic and metal free, meaning that they with turn to soil when they are no longer usable.
