With 24 years in the hair industry and 9 years in Further Education, Leanne is a true master of her craft. Currently leading the Hairdressing & Barbering apprenticeship provision at Yeovil College, she is dedicated to ensuring education reflects modern, real-world salon demands.

* The Credentials: Level 2/3 Hairdresser & Barber, Level 5 in Teaching, Assessor, IQA, Master Educator, and State Registered to the highest level.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE INDUSTRY.

The barbering and hairdressing industry is full of rules, traditions, "that's how we've always done it" and advice passed down from someone who once watched a YouTube video in 2017.

So we're throwing a few controversial opinions into the chair. Agree, disagree, argue with your mate — just don't throw the clippers.

HOT TAKE #01
"The customer isn't always right."
Sometimes the best professional advice is telling someone that the haircut they found on Instagram simply isn't going to work for their hair, face shape or lifestyle.

HOT TAKE #02
More expensive doesn't automatically mean better.
A £50 haircut isn't magically better than a £25 haircut. Price should reflect skill, experience, service, overheads and value — not just how fancy the mirror looks.

HOT TAKE #03
Not every barber needs to be an influencer.
You can be an incredible barber or stylist without posting three reels a day, dancing beside your chair or becoming best friends with the algorithm.

HOT TAKE #04 🔥
"I've been doing it for 20 years" isn't a qualification.
Experience matters. But experience without learning, adapting and improving can just mean you've been repeating the same mistakes for two decades.

And while we're here...
✂️ A fade doesn't automatically make a haircut good.
💷 Being busy doesn't necessarily mean you're profitable.
📱 10,000 followers don't necessarily make you a great barber.
🧠 Technical skill without customer service will only get you so far.
