Cast Affs is open and manned every Tuesday afternoon, but is also open and unmanned Monday-Thursday mornings. Cast Affs is Shapinsay's second hand shop/Charity shop. It was born out of lockdown when people couldn't get to Kirkwall with their goods and also didn't have access to affordable or second hand goods in town. So it was decided to set up a temporary shop for a few weeks, which turned into
months! When the building underwent renovation, Cast Affs as we knew it had to close, but the idea was still there, how else could we do it? So we got some funding and we took delivery of our lovely new building and Cast Affs Mark 2 was opened in July 2024. All proceeds go right back into helping Cast Affs run, or if community groups get involved, they get half of the proceeds and all of the proceeds of any raffles, games, baking etc!
