Enid Blyton was born on this day in 1897!

Even though she began publishing her work more than 100 years ago, she remains one of the world's bestselling and beloved authors. In the UK one of her books sells every minute!

Enid Blyton has become a staple in children's fiction, including her Faraway Tree series. We have these beautifully illustrated editions of 'The Magic Faraway Tree' and 'The Folk of the Faraway tree' are in stock now.

She wrote 700 books, 2000 short stories, as well as many poems and articles throughout her career!

Today, 207 years ago (in 1819) Herman Melville was born in New York City.

He is best known for his novels of the sea, inspired by his life on the water. Although Melville wrote many novels inspired by these years, ‘Moby Dick’ (or ‘The Whale’) is the most famous of the bunch. Although it sold less than 3,000 copies in his lifetime and completely flopped on its first publication, it became one of the first American novels to attain classic status.
