Riding High With a Dragon and her Knight

The Dragon (Wifey) and The Knight (hubby) are a married-to-each-other pair of wedding photographers with four mini Dragons to feed, clothe and look after. The Knight had bought our engraving machine a couple of years ago with a view to personalising the wedding boxes of our clients to hold their USB memory sticks and their photo extras but it sat, quietly,

in the corner as he hadn't gotten around to learning how to use it. When Covid-19 hit it shut our photography business down (temporarily!) and it meant our entire income for the year had been decimated. A month into the lockdown The Knight decided to create the boxes for the last two weddings we had done so dusted off the machine and brought it up to the house.....where The Dragon got her talons into it. Suddenly, with a head full of ideas and pictures she started to direct him on what to create before moving into learning how to use all the technology herself. Now, whenever she gets an idea she starts designing it and The Knight just keeps her on the straight and narrow and Dragon’s Knight Designs was born....and has soared like a Dragon should do. Our aim is to create amazing pieces of work that will last a long time creating memories, conversation and fun. Always open to ideas and ready to discuss your suggestions we aim to continue long after the wedding industry has re-opened up again and we hope you come and fly the skies with us on our journey.

The Dragon loves to create bespoke gifts for people and had a lot of fun creating this one for his garden. It matches the slate chippings they have around the base of the flowers (not shown in this image sadly but it is in the original).

Note the sneaky and subtle "cats not welcome" imagery? Snuck onto the design as cats can't read but they may recognise themselves and behave......maybe? Hopefully!!

We have mentioned our eldest Minibeast, Miss A, a few times over the years - mainly in connection with her schooling or her musical theatre achievements and today is a humble brag post for her (please excuse our indulgence).

Last night we were honoured to be invited to the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire's Awards for Young People ceremony as Miss A was a finalist for her achievements in her musical theatre life. From over 60 nominations she was longlisted, then shortlisted then became a finalist.

There were 12 amazing citations for the first three categories and three winners announced and then came to the final category - the Artist category. Awarded to a "young person who demonstrates real skill, innovation and expression in visual arts, expressive arts, literature and music" Miss A's category! Four more citations were read out - including hers - and, being the artist category, they showed a video for each young person - Alex's being a video of her singing "Til There Was You" from The Music Man which captured an enthralled audience.

She only went and blooming well won the category!!!

As you can imagine we are an immensely proud Dragon and Knight right now and all three of us are still buzzing and can't quite believe it!

Here in the Dragon's weyr we are literally one week away from the eldest Minibeast's first A Level exam!! We have also been tasked with creating a brand new affirmation gift for another A level taker which is going to look rather cool - we'll share that when we can.

With the oncoming exams we also have the end of an era for some - the end of primary or secondary school and a time to say thank you to those who have helped us along the way.

Afternoon everyone.

Zooming in to see how everyone is on such a beautiful day.

It's also about time we pulled up our socks and got back on the bandwagon - and what better way than to revisit some of our favourites starting with something that is very apt - our affirmation bunting.

These are fab for anyone who is about to head into A Levels or GCSEs. They act as a pocket hug - one a day in a blazer pocket tells someone they are loved. Obviously you can't take it out during an exam but, if you are stressed, a quick squeeze of the pocket, feel that bunting flag in there, and know they are being thought about.

I will need to get these onto the shop but, in the meantime, if this is something of interest - just drop us a message and we can chat.

Hey all you lovely people!!!

It's the stranger you all know as the Dragon!

It has been a really tough start to the year personally following on from a really tough 2024 but I am trying really hard to get back into the flow of things and will be trying my hardest to get back on track.

I have missed you all and will hopefully have lots of news and goodies to share with you all.

Hope your 2025 has been a brighter start than ours.

2024 as a whole was a pretty bleurgh year with personal losses, vehicle problems, SEND strains with the minibeasts and so much more which resulted in the Dragon withdrawing into herself to try and keep her mental health on a level. Although we were still working we weren't doing a lot of social media stuff and, for this, we are sorry.

However - New Year and all that jazz.....we are going to try and pick up the pace again with you, our lovely customers and followers.

It's exactly a month until the big fella in red pootles around the world bringing hope and joy and here at the Dragon's Weyr we have just the thing to help decorate your homes in readiness for him.

Our ply Santa bunting comes in two sizes with the sleigh being approximately 10cm wide for the smaller set and 16 cm wide for the larger set.

Evening everyone!!!!

It's the Dragon!!! She's been MIA but she's back!!!

She has been designing in the background though and, still one of our most popular products are our bespoke slate signs!!! Designed from scratch more often than not you can have the perfect sign. Just talk to us about what you need and leave the design and creation to us!!

This year has been a tough one in terms of my mental health and, just when it looked like I was coming through the other side, something else came along to knock me backwards. This meant, basically, that everything - from work to family -just sort of plodded along as I went into self-preservation mode - essentially went into hibernation doing just the bare minimum. It is tough and motivation for anything is so far away and every day there seems another battle to fight.

One thing that keeps me going is that I put this on my notice board in the kitchen and I have a glance at it almost every day to remind myself that, even in the darkest of times, the world possibly needs me - even just a bit.

I am hoping to be more 'with it' moving forward and start posting more on the socials as a way of pulling myself out of the darkness (if the world gives me a break) but in the meantime - to the person reading this: the word is better because you are in it.

It's been a busy order week this week with our biggest order to create in the 4 years since we started out.

We aren't able to show you the finished products yet but they started life as lengths of ash that the very lovely gentlemen over at our local wood yard cut down into award sized blocks of 5 inches, 6inches and 7 inches.....90 or so of them in total!!! There were also 6 coasters created for the beer run!

The Knight then sanded and oiled the blocks whilst the Dragon did all the design prep in readiness for engraving.

Once engraved each was re-oiled to seal the wood again and will be awarded to some extreme sportsmen and women over the weekend (as well as some fun runners)!!!

It was our pleasure to create something sustainable and chunky to be awarded to these amazing individuals and teams. Good luck to everyone taking part in the event - whether it be running or helping to host.
