We’ve mentioned our fictitious ancestor, Miss Teasel, who ran No.4 as a lodging house in the early 19thc, taking advantage of the boom in tin and copper mining around Liskeard, well here is a portrait of her niece Octavia. She is the daughter of Charles, Miss Teasel’s brother. Unlike his sister, he had married and after being apprenticed in a haberdashers shop, had them moved his family to Bath to set up his own establishment, which was highly successful. A wonderful illustration by Philip Gough for a 1950s edition of Alice in Wonderland. He obviously took some inspiration from the 18th century rococo. An elegant home for a lobster!
