How safe is va**ng? Part 3
It's sad that the industry is under attack from these media smears and we have to keep writing these.
While the UK is facing a General Election, the news outlets will always try and pad out their feeds with other stories in order to not dominate the headlines with purely politics. One such tactic is SPECULATIVE health scare stories.
A BBC News Article published today is headlined "Va**ng linked to teen's 'popcorn lung' type injury". As always when we actually move past the headline, the true nature of the story arises...
"The boy had v**ed daily for five months using flavoured cartridges and regularly added THC - the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis - to his va**ng fluid. His parents told the doctors he also had a habit of inhaling deeply when va**ng."(BBC News, 2019)
As we see, THC cartridges strike again.
However lets discuss popcorn lung.
So what is popcorn lung?
The British Lung Foundation state that “popcorn lung” also know as “bronchiolitis obliterans organising pneumonia” (BOOP) is believed to be an autoimmune disorder. Despite what the media suggests, BOOP is not a long term or terminal illness. Whilst it does take some time to heal, the illness is not only treatable but also reversible with a course of oral steroids such as prednisilone. (2019)
Cancer research UK have explicitly stated, “There’s no good evidence that e-ci******es could cause the lung condition called popcorn lung”. They further add to that by saying, “A few studies, published around 2015, looked at whether e-cigarette liquids available at the time contained diacetyl. They found that a large proportion of e-liquid flavours tested did contain some level of diacetyl. The idea that e-ci******es could cause popcorn lung came from these studies.
However, this study didn’t look at whether there was a link between e-cigarette use and popcorn lung in people. So far, there’s no good evidence that e-ci******es could cause popcorn lung.
In the UK, diacetyl was banned in e-cigarette liquid under the EU To***co Products Directive (TPD) in 2016. So, e-liquids sold in the UK shouldn’t contain diacetyl. Current research finds that e-ci******es are far less harmful than smoking and there’s growing evidence they may help some people to quit.” (2018)
Please remember, Public Health England maintain that va**ng is 95% safer than smoking.
Links between Popcorn Lung and Va**ng are merely speculative and sensationalised.
Links between Smoking and Cancer, COPD, Heart Attacks, Erectile Dysfunction, Hypertension, gingivitis, Aortic Aneurysms, and strokes are very real. Proven by long term research and clinical studies.
Once again, we at Electro Vapors are always here for advice and support.
Thank you
