When you pull a brush straight down from your scalp to your ends, you compress knots together into tight tangles. Forcing the bristles through that tension creates friction that snaps healthy hair strands, tears the cuticle, and leads to chronic split ends.

The Trichology Detangling Rule:
Bottom-Up Method: Always begin detangling the last 2 to 3 inches at the tips. Once that section is knot-free, move up slightly and repeat.

The Right Tool: Ditch dense, round styling brushes for detangling. Opt for a wide-tooth comb or a flexible-bristle detangling brush that bends with resistance rather than ripping through it.

Work in Sections: Small, controlled sections keep tension low and protect length retention.

Cranking the dial up doesn’t just melt your hair’s keratin protein—it can actually cause the water inside the hair shaft to flash-boil, leading to permanent structural breakage!

​The trichologist truth? There is no "one-size-fits-all" temperature. The right heat setting depends entirely on your hair’s texture and health:
​Fine, Bleached, or Chemically Treated Hair: Never exceed 300°F – 325°F (150°C – 160°C).
​Medium, Normal Hair: Stay between 350°F – 375°F (175°C – 190°C).
​Coarse, Thick, or Virgin Afro Hair: Up to 400°F (200°C), but always do a strand test first!
​Golden Rules to Remember:
​If you hear sizzling or see steam, the temperature is too high.
​Never linger—pass the tool through smoothly and quickly.
​Always prep with a quality heat protectant.
