Poo poo p*e p*e hehe. Not sure if it’s just my family or it’s a Cantonese or even broadly Asian thing, but I feel like we’re more open about talking about the stuff the comes out of you more than some cultures. Especially publicly. Okay, maybe it’s just me. But, healthy bowel moments are important! So here’s how you say in Cantonese:

💩 #屎 si2 = poo
大便 daai6 bin6 = to poo, the more formal and polite way to say
屙屎 o1 si2 = to poo, the more colloquial, common canto way
屙臭臭 o1 cau3 cau3 = to do a poo, the cute, child-friendly way to say
急屎 gap1 si2 = really need to do a poo
垃屎 laai1 si2 = diarrhoea

💛 #尿 niu6 = p*e
小便 siu2 bin6 = to p*e, the more formal and polite way to say
屙尿 o1 niu6 = to p*e, the colloquial, common canto way
屙𭉝𭉝 o1 syu4 syu4 = to wee wee, the cute, child-friendly way to say
急屎 gap1 niu6 = desperate for a wee
拉尿 laai1 niu6 = wet yourself

And there’s so many idioms about pooping and p*eing so, drop your fave in the comments 🙏 The more you know!

How to say “sorry” in took me a sec to think (compared to how to say “thank you” - see older post), and I don’t know if I’m less apologetic in my canto brain or I just hear “sorry” less 😂

Anyway, there’s two main ways to say sorry, and like thank you, it depends on the context, tone of voice, delivery, and how formal or not you’re being:

🙇🏻‍♀️ #對唔住 deoi3 m4 zyu6 is used for more formal situations, like in writing a letter of apology, and when being nicer, like when letting someone down lightly

🙏 #唔好意思 m4 hou2 ji3 si3 is more casual in tone and can be used for situations like accidentally bumping into someone, to getting someone’s attention, like “pardon me” or “excuse me” or “sorry to bother…”

“Sorry” is used a lot and its abbreviation “sor” always gives me a chuckle, especially when said multiple times in a row, like “sor sor sor for being so 傻.”

I tend to say sorry too often, even for things I shouldn’t be apologetic about, like my existence, or preemptively apologising for any cringe or dumb s**t I do. But like I said, usually in English. Do you apologise more in one language than another? 🤔

It wasn’t till a few years ago that I found out that some people take offense to the word 鬼佬 = gweilo aka ghost person aka used to describe white people aka used to describe foreigners in Hong Kong. Does that word offend you? My white friends who grew up or lived or lives in Hong Kong says no, some embrace it, some see it as a term of endearment.

Some Cantonese “ghost” words:
🐭 #鬼鼠 gwai2 syu2 = ghost mouse = sneaky
🐴 #鬼馬 gwai2 maa5 = ghost horse = strange, sly
👻 #鬼佬 gwai2 lou2 = ghost person aka used= foreigner

Funnily enough, it’s usually non-white people who get upset by “gweilo.” Gweilo originates as a derogatory word, but since then it’s evolved and is almost affectionate in use, even a Hong Kong founded beer (now based in the UK)’s namesake comes from this phrase, and yes, it’s owned by white folks. Again, so much of Cantonese depends on tone and delivery. What do you think? 🤔

🥵 🔥 It’s too hot, how are you surviving the summer heat?

I thought being Asian and growing up in Asia - okay Hong Kong - meant I could deal with extreme heat, but London is insane right now and air con isn’t everywhere. Every year everywhere just feels hotter and hotter and there’s only so many cold showers you can take. Idk where to even get 涼茶 (cooling herbal tea) here and I don’t think drinking buckets of it would do much.

Stay hydrated and cool and don’t forget your spf! (I’m really sounding like my Asian mum the older I get 😂)

How are you cooling off?

Soz to all those affected by the Labubu seize, Pop Mart pulling the plushies online and irl, and the cray resale value 💸🥲

Some silly puns:
🍆 la bun zau = 哪, 賓舟 (naa5, ban1 zau1) = voila, pen15
🫜 蘿蔔糕 (lo4 baak6 goi1) = turnip/white radish cake

🧸 Do you have a Labubu?

Pick your bun [insert Cantonese bakery emojis that don’t exist]

I haven’t drawn much lately, and kinda miss when I started the existential bo lo bau #菠蘿包 pineapple bun series of cartoons. Should I pick it up again? I feel like I keep half assing stuff and not following through 😢 so I guess I’m relating to that cry baby char siu #叉燒包 bbq pork bun in the top left corner 🥺.

Should we draw more buns (again)?

🇭🇰 Did you know? In slang for to play mahjong #打麻雀 daa2 maa4 zoek3 is #游乾水 jau4 gon1 seoi2 aka “dry swimming.” And did you know? Apparently there’s over 40 styles of mahjong, and yet I can’t play any 😅 Someone teach me please? 🀄️

Was inspired by and to do my own version of 💫

I haven’t been on the internets as often for a while - no personal life atm 😭 -, so I didn’t even know this trend was happening, I mean even picked it up as news! But, f**k not fun to do lists preventing me from experiencing joy, and yay I managed to give the a go, in my style, which is why it’s a bit messy and probably not actually age appropriate as a toy 🍷 This was fun.

👀 Hi hi sharing here something a bit different: 🍷 🥃 + me + you = ‼️

If you didn’t know, I’ve got a day job and it’s in drinks. And I’ve been in drinks for a real long time, so long that sometimes I forget how hard it can be to feel seen or heard in this industry, especially when you’re starting out. And starting out, and even now, no one really helped me or took me under their wing (yay hyper independent millennial corporate woman with back pain and perpetual burnout!).

So, I’m super excited to announce that this year I’m a mentor (I know, me!) for , an inclusivity mentorship programme for those starting out in drinks by (tysm for this opportunity!). Part of an underrepresented community like someone overlooked ethnically, with disabilities or LGBTQIA+ (or all three like me?), and curious about drinks? Then, swipe left to find out more about this incredible incubator and how you can sign up. (Soz about the cringe video, still getting used to speaking in front of a camera. Also disclaimer, I’m being a mentor because selfishly , ‘cause I wish I had help, so now I just try to always help, dw working on this with my therapist). Lastly, if you’re my mentee, I can guarantee you a drink on me 🍻😉. Applications close 23 March.

🐕 In , 門口狗 mun hao gau literally means guard dog, but it also figuratively describes someone - could still be a dog! - who’s bark is way worse than its bite, which describes my dog unfortunately, perfectly. My dog is a shy, anxious af, shaking teenie we**ie, who has found her unsolicited voice after many years of just silently judging you. And that bark is only vocally brave when she’s on her turf. She will yap at home deliveries, wag her tail in alert, and retreat tap dancing backwards, all at the same time. Silly dog.

Do you know anyone - or dog! - that’s all bark no bite? Or just leave a link/tag some dogs in the comments please 🙏
