Kimono and Yukata - while interchangeable, they serve different purposes 👘
Kimono (着物)
- For more formal settings
- Crafted from luxurious fabrics, such as silk, featuring intricate patterns and techniques that have been passed down through generations.
- Worn throughout the year, for ceremonies and celebrations etc.,
Yukata (浴衣)
- For more casual settings, often worn in summer
- Lighter, traditionally crafted by cotton
- Worn in summer, often at festivals, fireworks displays, and hot spring resorts etc.,
Regardless, both are an important part of Japan’s rich textile tradition.
