Where's the Frame?

a fresh online gallery to discover the newest generation of artists

Now on view at the gallery, ‘Drift’, a solo exhibition of Graham Gussin curated by Bella Kesoyan. The exhibition brings together ‘Drift’, a series of 82 works on paper made during lockdown, a sculpture from the ‘Platforms’ series, and ‘Layout’, a newly conceived artist’s book.

‘House with Layers and Motif’ (drift 31) is part of the ‘Drift’ series, which employs various graphic elements from a wide range of sources including science fiction, art history, philosophy, record covers, graffiti, and advertising.

Gussin’s work unfolds as a constellation of autonomous yet interrelated forms. In the exhibition, the drawings, sculpture, and the book are equal channels of thought, bringing about different perspectives and juxtapositions across the works. Together they suggest an architectural and archaeological sense where past, present and future merge, caught between a ruin and a proposal.

Night Café is pleased to introduce ‘Drift’, a solo exhibition of Graham Gussin curated by Bella Kesoyan. The exhibition brings together ‘Drift’, a series of 82 works on paper made during lockdown, a sculpture from the ‘Platforms’ series, and ‘Layout’, a newly conceived artist’s book. The show will run from 10 July until 5 September with a private view on Thursday 9 July, from 6 to 8 PM.

‘Platforms’ and ‘Drift’ were made alongside each other and both employ various graphic elements from a wide range of sources including science fiction, art history, philosophy, record covers, graffiti, and advertising. ‘Layout’ rises as a reaction to them, colliding with and informing each other, contributing to a fuller exploration of the same conceptual field.

It’s the last week to visit ‘Tools for Dreamers’, a solo exhibition of paintings and sculptural works by Ben Edmunds.

In this exhibition, Edmunds presents a new body of work exploring if it is possible to still embrace a pursuit in progress even when it is hard to trust in it. Through the visual languages of adventure sport and design, Edmunds explores abstraction on his own terms, navigating the tension between aspiration and uncertainty.

Continuing this week: ‘Tools for dreamers’.

In his solo exhibition of paintings and sculptural, Ben Edmunds asks whether it is still possible to embrace the pursuit of progress at a time when faith in its promises has become increasingly uncertain.  Drawing on the visual languages of sailing, climbing and other adventure sports, Edmunds explores a pursuit that has shaped artistic and cultural production for more than a century. Large gradient paintings evoke the sublime, while sculptures incorporating webbing, buckles, ropes and carbon fibre suggest systems built for movement, exploration and a destination that always remains just out of reach.

‘To the Furthest Edge’ draws on the visual language of adventure sports, and expedition gear, repurposing materials associated with endurance, risk, and forward momentum. Asking whether we can still fully commit to the promise of progress and the future in our current time. The work considers the tension between aspiration and doubt: what it means to remain invested in a journey whose outcome is unknown.

Ben Edmund’s solo show ‘Tools for dreamers’ is now on display at Night Cafe.

Ben Edmunds emphasises his works as more alike to objects, diverging from the visual stimuli of painting. Edmunds’ practice draws from the aesthetics of performance equipment, where colour, surface, and material evoke experiences of movement, navigation, and pursuit. Referencing the streamlined forms and visual codes associated with innovation and exploration, the exhibition reflects on a continued belief in human progress and the beauty found within its promises, ambitions, and constructed identities, even as faith in these ideals becomes increasingly difficult to sustain.

Thank you all for coming to the opening of Ben Edmunds’ solo exhibition ‘Tools for Dreamers’. The exhibition will run until July 4th.

In ‘We were once explorers too’, the artist has created an aluminium floor to ceiling structure around the architecture of the gallery, to support a 182 x 142 cm painting. In this painting, he has created a careful gradient of dark teal to a dark sky blue in dye and around it, a carbon fibre stretcher bar with text.

The visual language references adventure sports and the work questions if it is possible to still embrace a pursuit in progress even when it is hard to trust in it.

This week is the last week to see ‘Portals of Transcendence’, presenting new works by Anna Pakosz, Freya Fang Want and Meryl Yana in conversation with Helen Frankenthaler’s ‘Grey Fireworks’.

Curated by Claudia Cheng, the exhibition frames abstraction as a site of change, where painting operates as a threshold between material and immaterial states. The exhibition ends this Saturday, May 23.

Curated by Claudia Cheng and on view until May 23rd, ‘Portals of Transcendence’ presents works from Anna Pakosz, Freya Fang Wang, and Meryl Yana in dialogue with Helen Frankenthaler.

Anna Pakosz (b. 1991, Budapest) works on large, unprimed surfaces, favoring physical interaction over compositional intention. Her staining processes involve dye, rust, and material degradation, creating a visual language where materiality and spontaneity merge to reveal visceral gestures of becoming.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Wednesday night at the opening of ‘Portals of Transcendence’, guest curated by Claudia Cheng. The group show is now on view at Night Café Gallery until May 23rd, featuring ‘Cosmic Fantasia’ by Freya Fang Wang. Wang is presented alongside Helen Frankenthaler and two other contemporary artists, Anna Pakosz and Meryl Yana.

The exhibition considers abstraction as a material practice where space is produced, extended, and transformed. These contemporary works adapt and extend Frankenthaler’s post-war abstraction, letting painting operate as a threshold between material and immaterial states.
