5 days to go!! The Carshalton Record Fair returns to CryerArts this Saturday! 10 dealers offering thousands of LPs, 45s, 12s and CDs, plus books, memorabilia and gift ideas too. The crate digging starts at 11am through to 5pm. Free admission. Food and refreshements available from the bar. See you then folks! 😎🎸🥁🎶

One of the standouts of this weeks newbies is this highly entertaining record from the Battersea County School Band. Released in 1977, the album is split between performances from the junior and senior bands, and as a whole comes across as a more polished version of Gavin Bryars' Portsmouth Sinfonia, featuring a liberal sprinkling of bum notes as well as some highly accomplished and frequently funky drumming - in a parallel universe a copy was picked up in a Brooklyn flea market in 1980 and samples from it have appeared on a few dozen hip hop & electronica LPs over the last few decades. A great addition to the quirkier corners of any collection 🎺🥁👌🎶

Happy Psychedelic Sunday everyone ✨️ The new Shindig is in today, featuring an excellent piece about Wallington's own Neil Ardley and his 70s avant jazz masterpiece 'Kaleidescope Of Rainbows' among other great features, and to tie in neatly with that we also have the new Shindig special 'Kaleidescope: The Effect Of Psychedelia On The 1980s'. You can pick up a copy of each today between 12pm and 2pm - yep early closing today as we're heading to the coast later. See you soon 😎👋🧙🏽‍♂️🐖🎶

Hello folks. It's the CJ CarshaltonJazz summer festival in the marquee tomorrow (Saturday), with 2 brilliant acts lined up, but don't forget that although it's a ticketed event, the shop will be open as normal, from 12pm to 5:30. You don't need a ticket to see us & have a browse through the racks, and you'll be able to sneak a listen to some great music while you're at it👂In between acts we will be playing sounds that are jazz, almost-jazz and not-quite-so-jazz. Nice! 😎👌🎷🍻🎶
