I have a feeling this one wonā€™t be hanging around for longā€¦ šŸ„€

A beautiful vintage ruby and diamond ring, centred with an incredible 2.00ct unheated natural rubyā¤ļø

Why does ā€œunheatedā€ matter? Because the vast majority of rubies on the market have been heat treated to improve their colour and clarity. Finding a natural ruby of this size that hasnā€™t undergone heat treatment is something a little more specialā€¦and exactly the sort of thing Iā€™m always hoping to uncover when Iā€™m sourcing.

And then thereā€™s that colour. Rich, raspberry red, surrounded by bright white diamonds and all the character you only really get from an older piece.

This is why I love vintage jewellery: you can search for months and then suddenly something like this turns up!

And yesā€¦ I did briefly consider keeping her. šŸ‘€

What Iā€™d tell my bestie if they were looking to buy a vintage engagement ringā€¦ šŸ’­šŸ’

1. Donā€™t expect an old diamond to look perfectā€¦
Old-cut diamonds can be wonky, have chunky facets, visible culets and completely different proportions to modern diamonds ā€” and that why we love them! I also love a warmer old cut so donā€™t be put off if the specs are a bit different to those of a new diamond. Itā€™s all character āœØ

2. Diamonds are classic but some of the best vintage rings (in my opinion!) are beautiful bright sapphires, rubies and other coloured gems. Just avoid soft gemstones if you want to wear it everyday.

3. Speaking of which, itā€™s realistic to expect a vintage rings to need a bit of TLC over time. Itā€™s better to have a ring thatā€™s been repaired well than is 100% original but will fall apart. I check rings for condition before resale and offer repairs within 6 months of purchase so you can rest assured it will be safe!

4. Donā€™t be afraid to ask the seller questions
Ask about condition - does it have chips and cracks - ask about returns policies, certificates and resizing. Anything that makes you feel more confident of your choice is a worthwhile query.
Also donā€™t forget to ask Whether a diamond is an antique old cut - theyā€™re are lots of modern and lab recuts out there (which is fine, but you want to get what youā€™re paying for)

5. Get creative and build a ring collection that feels like you šŸ’• thatā€™s the fun of buying vintage / antique jewellery!

And the best bit? Itā€™s unlikely youā€™ll ever see someone else wearing the same ring šŸ«¶

I adore this ring!
It features a large 2.64ct round old mine cut natural diamond, with chunky facets an open culet, plus a total of 0.40ct of diamond baguettes on each shoulder. Itā€™s a classic early 20th century design and a classic that will be forever chic.
The diamond is graded at SI1 but presents as eye clean and is lovely and fiery. It is on the warmer side, but please use the videos on my website as the best representation of the real life colour as it shows up warmer in the photos. A great buy if you want a larger natural antique diamond and would be a precious heirloom for you āœØ

Old cut diamond: 2.64ct, colour K-L, clarity SI1
Shoulder diamonds: 0.40ct total
Stamped ā€˜Platinumā€™

This is a 1.84ct old cut diamond (natural) of colour: M, clarity: SI2 and itā€™s been reset by master goldsmiths in London to create this unique ring; one that is both modern but also sympathetic to the era of the diamond.
