Most people think cheese is just “strong” or “mild”.

Behind the counter, I spend most of my time explaining:
✨why cold cheese tastes of nothing
✨why Parmesan rinds should never be thrown away
✨why the smelliest cheeses aren’t the strongest
and why proper cheddar is wrapped in cloth

Win a trip to Paris and experience one of the world’s most important cheese events 🇫🇷

I’m giving one of you the chance to attend Salon du Fromage et des Produits Laitiers ✨ a global gathering of cheesemakers, affineurs and industry experts, held in the heart of Paris.

This is where the cheese world comes together.
Hundreds of producers. Thousands of cheeses. Tastings, masterclasses, and competitions that shape what ends up on our tables.

It’s where trends are spotted early. Where new cheeses are discovered. Where the best in the industry spend their time.

I’ll be there too, and it’s genuinely one of the highlights of the cheese year.

Whether you’re a cheesemonger, a total cheese obsessive, or just someone who wants to experience it properly ✨ this is for you.

Today I featured Double Gloucester on in honour of the legendary Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake in Gloucestershire, where people quite literally throw themselves down a hill chasing a wheel of cheese 🧀

The tradition is believed to be over 600 years old, with the first written record dating back to 1826. Every Spring Bank Holiday, competitors race down Cooper’s Hill after a 4kg wheel of Double Gloucester.

The hill itself is around 200 yards long with a terrifying 1:2 gradient, and the cheese can reach speeds of up to 70mph, which means nobody really catches it. The winner is simply the first person to survive the descent and cross the finish line 🎉

Still one of the greatest British food traditions ever invented! Absolute madness!

Some cheeses stay with you 🧀

Not because they’re new.
But because they’ve always been right.

I’ve been selling cheeses from Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses for over 20 years
so finally going to the farm, seeing the milk, the maturing rooms & meeting the people behind it felt like something quite special

Seeing where cheeses like Kidderton Ash, Tunworth, Trotter Hill and Blacksticks Blue are made and how much care goes into each one……gives you a completely different understanding of the flavour.

I brought a few back with me.
They’re now in the shop.

I’m really looking forward to working more closely with Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses to champion British cheese🧀✨
