🌱 Sustainably made in the UK
📸 We’re a small British brand making clothes with a conscience.

At Palava, we believe in doing things differently — designing joyful, bold pieces that are made to last, not follow trends. Every item is crafted from natural fibres, often made to order, and produced as locally as possible (yes, even the fabric!). Our mission? To prove that sustainability can be beautiful, that craftsmanship matters, and that community is at the heart of everything we do. We make less, but better — with zero waste as our goal and storytelling stitched into every piece.

In this dispatch, we’re talking about the fabric that never quite makes it into a dress.
The awkward offcuts left between pattern pieces on the factory floor. The scraps we’ve quietly been collecting for years because I couldn’t bear to see them go to landfill.
Now, at the Hatchery, we’re starting to find uses for them.
The team have been turning these leftover pieces into scrunchies, hair ties, and small summer accessories like bucket hats. It’s been a process of learning what’s practical, what’s manageable, and what people genuinely want to wear and use.
You’re never going to get to zero waste in clothing. There will always be scraps and offcuts.
But if we can keep finding ways to turn those pieces into something useful, then perhaps they stop becoming waste altogether.
Slowly, we’re learning how to make more from what we already have.

Welcome to the unofficial Palava Best in Show vegetable competition 🥕🏆
There were no real rules, very little judging, and absolutely no prize money involved… but we do think the fruit and veg category was particularly strong this year.

From left to right:
Annie is wearing our Louise Peas Dress in size 10, paired with our Vera Teal Bugs cardigan in size S.
Stefania is wearing our Florence Navy Fruit & Veg skirt in size S and our Vera Green Edible Flowers cardigan in size S.
Jennie is wearing our Louise Pot Plants dress in size 10.

We had a wonderful time this weekend at meeting so many fellow Palavians.
There is always something rather lovely about spotting Palava out in the wild, especially surrounded by music, sunshine, dancing, and such a warm community of people.
Thank you everyone for such a brilliant weekend 💛

Over the years, Palava has slowly found its way into some very lovely independent shops.

Shops full of colour, character, thoughtful buying, and people who genuinely care about what they do.

We know shopping locally and independently means a lot to many of you, so we thought we’d put together a little list of some of the places you can find Palava in person.

A huge thank you to all of our stockists for supporting small brands like ours. We feel very lucky to work with you all.

You can also find the full stockist list on our website.

What goes into a Palava photoshoot?
A lot of planning, a lot of moving things around, and everyone getting stuck in.
Holding up fabrics to make backdrops, adjusting pieces between shots, checking lists, reviewing photos, and making sure everything feels just right.
There are always a lot of pieces to get through, but we try to keep it light, have fun, and hope that energy comes through in the final photos.
It’s always a team effort, all to try and capture how the clothes feel in real life.

Last year, Bryony visited the knitwear factory we work with in Türkiye.
For us, visiting the people who make our clothes is important. Not just to see the finished garments, but to properly understand the process, the skill involved, and the people behind it all.
We want to know who we’re working with, how things are being made, and whether the values we talk about are genuinely being carried through the making too.
One thing that really stayed with Bryony was seeing yarn from pieces that hadn’t worked out being unravelled, so it could later be respun and used again rather than wasted.
Reducing impact doesn’t just begin when clothes are worn. It starts long before that, in the making itself.
We think it’s important to know where things come from, who made them, and how they were made.

Our Butterfly Vera cardigan was inspired by British butterflies. The sort you spot fluttering through gardens, across village greens, and around the fête on a sunny afternoon.
From Common Blues and Red Admirals to Peacock butterflies and the wonderfully dramatic Purple Emperor, each butterfly was researched and drawn before becoming part of the knit.
We always try to make things that feel joyful, but also rooted in real things we have seen, collected, and loved over the years.
Sometimes inspiration starts with something as simple as spotting butterflies in the garden.

Made at the Hatchery.
A few moments of Beth sewing, pieces coming together, and the finished hats out in the sun.
Made from fabrics we already had, and part of how we’re beginning to bring more of our making in-house.
Easy, practical, and ready for summer.

We’ve gone a bit hat-ty.

After a few sneak peeks throughout the season, our bucket hats have finally arrived.

Made at the Hatchery using leftover fabrics from our collections, they’re a small but exciting step as we begin bringing more of our making in-house.
Practical, playful, and ready for summer, they pair perfectly with our matching Peggy tops and dresses this season.

Now available online and in store.

What actually is The Hatchery?

In 2024, we took on an old building in North Yorkshire, next to our warehouse, that had been sitting empty for years. To some people it looked beyond saving, but to us, it felt full of potential.

At the time, there were a lot of questions floating around at Palava.

Why does the fashion industry work the way it does?
How can we be better?
What would happen if we tried to do things differently?

The Hatchery became our experiment in trying to answer some of those questions. Not by growing bigger, but by trying to grow better.

Since then, we’ve been restoring the building, growing flax and woad for natural dyes, learning about British wool, and setting up our own small-scale fabric printing space.

This season, for the first time, some of the fabrics in our collection were printed by us at the Hatchery itself, which feels like a very important milestone.

Over time, we hope the Hatchery becomes a place for learning, making, workshops, and bringing people together.

We want to take YOU on that journey with us.

Follow for more updates. We’ll also soon be opening a mailing list to share more of the journey.

If you want to know more about The Hatchery now, head over to our website and take a look at Our Sustainability Journey.
