The Whisky Exchange currently stocks more than 2,500 whiskies, of which about 1,900 are Single Malt Scotch whiskies, with 200 Bourbons available and the remainder being made up of Blended Scotch, Grain, Irish, Japanese and other whiskies from countries including Wales, South Africa, India, Sweden and Australia. In addition to this there are more than 275 rums, around 200 vodkas, more than 300 Cognacs and Armagnacs, 100 gins, 120 Tequilas and more than 400 specialist liqueurs. In all, something in the region of 5,000 products are active on the site and available to order online at any given time, and this number is increasing as we continue to stock the best of the thousands of new products released each year.

Head of our Old & Rare team, Jason Vaswani, has selected a 1980s Blair Athol 8 Year Old to spotlight this month. This is what he has to say about this terrific bottling: 🥃

'One of my selections for the month of September is this Blair Athol 8 Year Old bottled in the 1980s.

This bottling is a long discontinued bottling from a time when the Blair Athol distillery was under the ownership of Arthur Bell & Sons, and their venture into producing Single Malt wh**ky from the Blair Athol distillery at a time when almost all of its production went to the creation of the Bell’s blended wh**ky.

What started out as a 8 Year Old expression in the late 1960s / 1970s eventually changed to a 12 year old core expression and the 8 year old expression is only found today through these historic bottlings.

Tasting notes for the Blair Athol 8yo, is its more on the lighter style, orchard fruits, pears and some honeyed melon, a hint of baking spice on the palate and a fruity palate with a rounded finish.'

This rich and intense Bunnahabhain is the perfect match for the vivacious Sagittarius. Matured for four years in a single first-fill Oloroso sherry cask, it balances youthful energy with the depth and complexity of sherry maturation.

Chocolate, salted caramel, dried strawberries and flaked almonds on the nose lead to a palate that’s rich and fruity, with additional notes of dark brown sugar and chocolate orange. 🍊
