Have you ever turned down an invitation because you didn’t have the ‘right’ clothes?
Yesterday I went to Ideas Fest alone. I felt nervous about not knowing anyone, so I thought carefully about what I could wear to help me feel confident and invite connection.
I chose sunny yellow and, of course, my FABULOUS sequin duster coat. 🪩 The same jacket featured on the cover of my book, Don’t Save It For Best We Are Curves.
By the time I reached the coffee station, I’d already spoken to five people I’d never met.
My outfit was an invitation. An ice-breaker, a conversation starter and a way of telling the world who I am.
I met fascinating new people, had deep conversations with strangers and bumped into people I knew, including some I’d only ever met online. They recognised me by the sequins and big earrings!
And it got me thinking about the cost of not showing up for yourself:
Who are you not meeting?
Are you being overlooked?
Are you turning down opportunities because you don’t feel you have the ‘right’ clothes?
Finding YOUR style isn’t about having more clothes. It’s about finding pieces you LOVE and building outfits that make your life easier.
So instead of only asking, “Does this look good?”, what if we also asked:
🎉What do I want this outfit to do for me today?
🪩How do I want to FEEL?
🙌Do I want to invite conversation, signal confidence or simply show up fully as myself?
When your clothes make you feel like the most authentic version of yourself, you’re more present, more confident and more willing to take up space.
And that energy? Magnetic. 🪩🎉
Tell me in the comments: what do you want your clothes to DO for you?
And if you’re ready to make getting dressed feel easier, more confident and more you, DM me IDEAS and I’ll share the next steps with you 👇
