Antique Swiss silver ladies' fob pocket watch dating from the late Victorian era. The Dial: It features a white porcelain/enamel dial with traditional black Roman numerals. The dial is heavily embellished with a decorative outer minute track and a multi-colored bicolor gold floral motif . The Hands: The hour and minute hands are made of ornate, delicate gilt metal. The Case: These types of watches are typically crafted from continental solid silver, stamped with Swiss purity hallmarks such as 0.935 on the inner dust covers. The outer case usually features fine, hand-engraved floral or geometric chasing. The Key: Beside the watch is its corresponding winding and setting key. Unlike modern stem-wound watches, these older mechanical movements require a key to be inserted into the back of the case to wind the mainspring and adjust the hands.

Key Characteristics & Mechanics:The Dual Outer Scales: The fine outer calibrations reading from 25 up to 300 represent a specialized chronograph track. The second, innermost numbering (0 to 60 or fractionals like 9/5, 9/6) functions as a specialized telemetry, racing, or scientific scale. This acts as a manual brake to stop and start the central sweeping seconds hand, allowing the watch to function as an early stopwatch.Dial Layout: It features a traditional white enamel dial with stark Roman numerals for the hours and elegant, delicate gilt and blued-steel hands. The Case: The robust metal case is typically crafted from brass and features a classic oversized onion pendant loop at the 12 o'clock mark.Movement is Fully Working order.serial numbers (No. 71325 and the designator 5), the layout, and visual markers, this is a classic antique Swiss cylinder movement, commonly produced from the mid-to-late 19th century (circa 1860–1890).

Victorian-era "Improved Chronograph" center seconds pocket watch, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900). Key Details & Dial MarkingsThe Scale: The outer perimeter features a scale marked from 25 to 300. These watches beat at 18,000 vibrations per hour (vph), meaning the balance wheel ticks exactly 5 times per second (or 300 times per minute). This specialized track allowed the user to count individual ticks or calculate a medical pulse over a minute interval.Text Markings: The face is marked "IMPROVED CHRONOGRAPH", a designation commonly used by British watchmakers and retailers of the era for watches featuring a stop-seconds lever. It also states "PATENT" alongside the serial or production number 58157.The "Stopwatch" Mechanism: These are known as "center seconds" pocket watches. They featured a tiny slide lever on the outer edge of the metal case band. Sliding it physically paused the entire balance wheel to freeze the sweep second hand in place. Because stopping the mechanism paused time-keeping entirely—and there was no instant flyback reset to zero—they were more basic predecessors to the modern chronograph .movement featuring a gilt three-quarter plate configuration.Notable Markings & FeaturesMaker/Retailer Name: The plate is elegantly engraved with "C. L. Potthoff", a regional watchmaker and jeweler.Location: It is engraved with "NORTH SHIELDS", identifying its origin from the coastal town in Tyne and Wear, North East England.Serial Number: The distinctive production serial number No. 58757 is clearly stamped on the left side.Craftsmanship: It showcases high-quality British horology, including an intricately engraved balance c**k, a compensation balance wheel, a regulator index scale for fine-tuning timekeeping, and heat-blued steel screws. Not Working selling it as for Repair Restoration ,or Spares.
