Mary Mint

Mary Mint Everything we do is guided by a simple idea: if an animal is raised for food, it deserves to be used with care and respect.

From proper cooking fats to natural homewares, everything we do is about valuing what the land and animals give us, and backing British farmers who look after both. We are a small British business working with regenerative farms to bring you traditional animal fats and natural homewares made from by-products of the food system. By turning fats, skins and other materials into useful, beautiful things, we help reduce waste and support farmers who look after their land. Rooted in slow living, proper cooking and British agriculture, our products are made to be used, loved and kept — not thrown away when fashions change.

There’s something rather lovely about the connections you make at markets. ❤️

About a month ago, I met a lovely lady at my stall. She bought a couple of bits and, as often happens, we got chatting and bonded over our love of a more natural way of living, gardening and all the little things that make life feel a bit slower and more grounded.

She mentioned that she lived in my town, so naturally I asked where abouts… and when she told me, I knew exactly where she meant!

You see, Clayton has a job delivering free magazines down there, and whenever I’m walking past her house, I always slow right down because I’m completely captivated by her beautiful garden. 🌿 Some may say nosy, but it's so amazing, it cannot be ignored!

Well, yesterday I was lucky enough to be invited in for a cup of tea and a wander around this amazing little slice of heaven. 🌱

We talked plants (I learnt about lots of new ones!), nature, the body’s own ways of healing and how we can help ourselves to destress and regulate through things like the vagus nerve.

I came home with an evening primrose and a lavender bag — but more importantly, I came away feeling very grateful.

Grateful for markets. Grateful for lovely conversations. Grateful that sometimes buying a little something from someone’s stall can turn into a friendship, a cup of tea and an afternoon wandering around a beautiful garden.

How lucky am I to meet such wonderful people along the way? 🥰

I’ll be at the wonderful Lustleigh Village Show on 31st August-Bank Holiday Monday, bringing a little bit of Mary Mint loveliness along with me! 🐑🌿

If you’re heading to the show, please come and say hello. I’d absolutely love to see you there! 💚

✨ NEW SHADE ALERT ✨

One of the most popular little wonders at Mary Mint has just had a gorgeous new addition…

Say hello to Dew.

These lovely little Fierce Nature Selfie Sticks are one of my absolute favourites because they do a whole lot without asking you to spend ages standing in front of the mirror.

They nourish the skin whilst giving your face a little colour, highlighting and tinting exactly where you want it.

So, if you're anything like me and can't be bothered to spend more than 5 minutes getting ready… this is definitely for you. 😂

If you're one of those naturally beautiful people who can simply dot a bit here and there and somehow look fabulous… we secretly hate you. 😜

(Only joking. Obviously. 😂)

And if you prefer a more natural, lightweight approach to make-up and don't enjoy heavy fragrances or loads of pigment, these little beauties are well worth a look.

Just a tiny bit here, a little blend there and you're good to go.

Exciting news!

I was very kindly offered a last-minute space at the market at The Birdhouse in Pinces Gardens, Exeter tomorrow and I couldn't resist.

I do love how this little business of mine seems to be growing in ways I never quite expect. Only 7 months ago I wouldn't have imagined being a market trader, but here we are!

So if you're around Exeter tomorrow, come and say hello. I'll have all the usual Mary Mint loveliness with me — British-made homewares, natural goodies, gorgeous skincare and a few of my favourite things for slow living.

Tomorrow I'm taking a couple of friends from the city to the farm.

And I can't wait to introduce them to a little bit of serenity.

We'll wander through the market garden, have a look inside the polytunnels and see what's growing, before heading down to the main farm for coffee and cake in the camp kitchen. There may even be a little archery thrown in for good measure! 🏹

But more than anything, I want to show them where food actually comes from.

There's something very different about seeing a lettuce growing in the ground, walking amongst the crops, touching the soil and understanding the care that goes into producing food. It's easy to become disconnected from that when most of our food arrives neatly packaged on a supermarket shelf.

That's one of the things I love about what we're doing at Wave Hill Farm. Regenerative farming isn't just about what we grow. It's about looking after the soil, the land, the animals and the whole system that connects them.

For me, food isn't just something we buy and eat. It's something we can understand, appreciate and reconnect with.

So tomorrow, there'll be no rushing. Just boots, growing things, hangin' out with Kipper and Segar, good conversation, coffee, cake and a little bit of farm life. ❤️

And perhaps that's exactly what we all need a little more of.

WE NEED TO GET BRYAN TO THE MARKET! 🐄😂

Yesterday was a fabulous day at the market!

Despite the threat of rain hanging over us all day, it stayed warm, with just a little bit of wind towards the end which sent us packing slightly earlier than planned. But overall, it was a brilliant day. ❤️

My lovely Mum, who is my loyal Mary Mint helper, was with me as usual and I'm pleased to report that she absolutely LOVED her new present… a director-style camping chair! 😂

After all her years of helping me, I decided she deserved a proper throne. 👑😂

I also met some gorgeous people, named some sheepskins with their help, had some lovely chats and, of course, met some very important four-legged customers too… including a beautiful lurcher called Rosie who could quite honestly have been Kipper’s sister! 🐕🥰

But towards the end of the day, something rather lovely happened.

A lady came over to my stall and asked, “Are you Caroline?”

She introduced herself as Shirley and Bryan’s daughter and told me she had come to see the big cow hide that I named Bryan with a Y, after her dad. 🐄😂

And suddenly, I realised something…

I NEED TO GET THE REAL BRYAN TO THE MARKET.

I want a photograph of Bryan with a Y… with Bryan! 😂

The only problem is, there is a very real possibility that someone will fall head over heels for the hide and take him home before we make it happen.

Every market, people admire him. They stroke him, compliment him, tell me how gorgeous he is and ask if they can take him home.

So this is now officially a MISSION TO GET BRYAN TO THE MARKET.🚨

Shirley… please tell your husband that his namesake is waiting for him! 😂

We need the photo before someone buys Bryan with a Y!

And if you see me at the market with a cow hide and a slightly frantic look on my face, you’ll know what I’m up to. 🤣🐄
