Well, if you see me this week, cut me some slack... I will be running on empty! 🤣

For the last three days, I've swapped the Phillips Hobbies uniform for a hi-vis vest, ditched the shop - and the laptop - and somehow found myself helping run a music festival as one of the organising committee members.

Didn't have it on my bingo card that I'd be standing in front of a stage watching Blazin' Squad perform to a packed crowd... but here we are! 🤣

What most people see is the music, entertainment and thousands of people enjoying themselves. What they don't see are the months of planning, organising and fundraising that happen long before the first act steps on stage.

People ask why I get involved, and honestly, the answer is quite simple: I love seeing people happy. Whether that's a family enjoying a day out, old friends catching up, or a kid walking into Phillips Hobbies and being amazed by all the stock - it's the same feeling.

This year felt particularly special. Every day was packed, the atmosphere was brilliant, and quite possibly the biggest March Summer Festival we've ever had. For a small Fenland town, in our little park, putting on a completely free event like that and seeing so many people enjoy it is pretty amazing 🥹

I'll admit, seeing Phillips Hobbies up on the big screens across the weekend gave me a bit of a smile, too.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this to life. Events like this only happen because people quietly give up countless hours of their time, entirely as volunteers, to make them happen. I'm incredibly proud to have played my part alongside such a fantastic team ❤️

Normal service resumes at Phillips Hobbies tomorrow...
..but if you mention how sunburned my face is, I reserve the right to ban you from the shop. 🤣

TOMORROW, I will be at Ramsey Fen Fair Fenland Classic Vehicle Show with a stand, bringing along a selection of our model railways and diecast collectibles!

There will be lots to see, so it’s definitely worth the trip over.

This year includes a model railway exhibition run by Fens Model Railway Club, which is where you’ll find me!

Thank you all so much for your orders over the bank holiday - it really does mean a lot.

Today turned out to be the busiest day in Phillips Hobbies history, even busier than Christmas, which still feels strange to say 🥹

I still remember how big a moment it felt just getting a Royal Mail account set up and not having to lug IKEA bags to the Post Office!

Seeing a van full go out the door today really brings that into perspective.

We were in early this morning getting everything packed up and out, and I’m really glad we were able to get it all cleared on time for you all 😊

It’s days like this that remind me how far things have come - and none of it happens without your support.

Two years ago today, I picked up the keys to what would become Phillips Hobbies first “real” home.

I’ll try not to get too emotional writing this… but if you know me and how much I love this place, you’ll know that’s not going to happen.

It feels like a lifetime ago, yet I remember it so clearly. The agent handed me the keys, wished me well, and drove off. And there I was, stood there on my own, thinking: what on earth have I done?

There was no getting out of this one!

One minute you’re a 21-year-old working out of a crammed spare bedroom. The next, you’ve taken on a space that feels enormous, with overheads about to start piling up - and no real idea how you’re going to fill it.

I knew what I wanted to do. I’d spent years dreaming about it. There’s a big difference between having a dream and actually standing face-to-face with it. It’s humbling… especially for a ‘kid’ whose only job before this was a paper round.

Four days later, the first shelves were up, and orders were going out.

It still took me months to properly open the shop. I wanted everything to be “perfect”.

But what I’ve learned since is that there’s no such thing as perfect, and there’s never a “right” time. Sometimes you just have to jump in feet first and trust that the rest will follow.

These past two years have been incredible… and bloody tough. I’m slightly surprised I haven’t found any grey hairs yet - but hey, I’m sure they’re on the way! 🤣

Truly: whether you’ve visited the shop, ordered online, or supported from afar - I see you. Every order, every message, every bit of support means more than I can properly put into words.

SO, for as long as you’ll have me, I’ll keep doing everything I can to be your go-to model shop.
