The ban on the sale of lead fishing weights is on its way.

But here's where it gets interesting…

If you're still allowed to use the lead you've already got, what are you going to do?

🌱 Make the switch anyway? There are perfectly legitimate environmental reasons for getting lead out of our rivers, drains and lakes.

📦 Start stockpiling leads now — COVID toilet-roll style — while you can still buy them?

😏 Or simply find… ahem… “other sources”?

🎣 RIGHT THEN… LET’S START AN ARGUMENT.

Barbel are a flowing-water fish.
They have NO place in commercial stillwaters.

Agree? Or complete nonsense?

There are plenty of proper barbel rivers out there; not least, the Trent, Wye and Thames - and closer to home the Nene and Great Ouse.

But barbel are increasingly familiar inhabitants of commercial stillwaters too.

So what do Fenland anglers reckon?

👍 Stillwaters are fine if the fish are properly looked after.
😡 Nope. Barbel belong in rivers. End of.
🤔 It’s more complicated than that.
