I had a Licensing Hearing last night which clashed with the monthly meeting of the Parish Council, but I hoped that if I could manage it that I would try and deliver my Watling Ward update to Shenley Church End Parish Council in person. I got there just after it had been heard by the councillors, but pleased none the less to hear that it had been well received.

Parish Councils do such an important job within our communities, and here in Milton Keynes we are ‘fully parished’ which is highly unusual. Take a read of your parish magazine the next time it pops through your letterbox, and see what’s going on in your area.

Great to see Cllr Shazna Muzammil there too! Always a bonus!

Always a pleasure to be at Shenley Church End Parish Council, and lovely to see a new Parish Councillor being co-opted tonight 🥳

My ward councillor update covered Shenley Park, Lime scooters, my meeting with Savills about Westcroft District Centre, and one of the things that did stand out was a resident and parish cllrs raising concerns around looked after children in unregulated homes. I’ve said I’ll look into what’s happening locally and report back.

Another highlight was hearing from a resident campaigning for a new bus route connecting Stony Stratford to Westcroft through Whitehouse. He presented a really well thought-out proposal, clearly setting out the problem, the route and what’s needed.

Our communities are growing, and being connected matters. Public transport needs to work for the people and communities it is supposed to serve.

And finally- company! 😄 Great to be joined by one of my councillors from neighbouring Watling ward Cllr. Amanda Marlow for Watling Ward. Shenley Church End Parish covers parts of both Tattenhoe and Watling, usually it’s just me, so it was really good to have representation from both tonight.

Lots discussed, plenty to follow up and a great reminder of what can happen when residents get involved and push for something that could make a real difference locally. 💙

Thank you to residents in Crownhill and Shenley Church End who have contacted me about the poor service that they’re currently experiencing from Royal Mail. Complaints have been about the upset by missed deadlines caused by late delivery of post, birthdays missed, hospital appointments missed to name just a few. It’s more than an inconvenience.

I’ve asked our three MPs to work together to fix the issue of letters taking too long to deliver. All of us have been affected. It's not just poor service. The Royal Mail has a legal obligation to deliver 90% of first class post by next working day and 95% of 2nd class within 3 working days.

Thank you to everyone in Great Holm who commented and turned out to support us with this.

Last night’s Planning Committee considered two applications for the Shurgard building on Watling Street. Alongside Loughton & Gt Holm Parish Council clerk Paula Milford, Great Holm resident Jon Williams, and I all spoke against both applications.

Landscaping: REFUSED. The committee agreed the proposed planting couldn’t deliver the screening this site needs, which is a real win for residents.

Lighting & noise: Approved, reluctantly. Members had concerns, but with the applicant complying, and the lighting issues being technically correct, sadly there were no grounds to refuse.

Not the full result we wanted, but still a genuine win on landscaping. Thank you to everyone who objected and showed up, to support us in the public gallery. It truly made a difference.

🗑️ FOUR WEEKS. That’s how long rubbish and recycling sat uncollected outside a communal bin store in Innes Court on Grange Farm. With the temperatures rising, so did the smell.

A resident got in touch with me, as they were utterly fed up that despite lots of assurances that the waste had been collected, it clearly hadn’t. So I chased it up with Milton Keynes City Council on their behalf, kept the pressure on, and got the waste collected and the bin store has been properly cleared out. Result!

Reggae Land Festival is over and done for another year. Over the weekend I’ve had many emails and comments from residents, about the issues over concert goers inconsiderate parking that people have experienced outside their homes and along their streets. I have raised this with the council as I feel that we must do better to manage this situation.

This morning I drove past a horrendous amount of litter carpeting the redway that runs from the Bowl towards Bletchley along Watling Street. It was particularly bad from Roni’s Car Wash up to H8 Standing Way, with boxes of waste food left from food vendors mixed with spent barbecue coals, and litter from concert goers. I raised this with the council this morning that the clearing of the public areas (redway along Watling Street) outside of the Bowl area hadn’t been done at that point. This area is just as, if not more, important because they’re used by pedestrians and cyclists.

I appreciate that the organisers were busy clearing the inside of The Bowl last night. Huge thanks to the army of people who have been out already clearing the litter from Knowlhill, it was great to see the mountains of filled plastic bags on street corners waiting to be collected.

I also visited London Road this morning, to see the aftermath for myself. I am concerned about the litter that’s been left along the top of London Road, so will be out later today with my trusty litter pick to tidy up.

Today I attended a very busy public consultation on Aldwycks Field, Shenley Church End to see for myself the plans for the proposed play park for the field, and to get an idea of exactly where the council are proposing to build it.

I spoke to a great many residents and listened to your concerns, with many of you expressing your thoughts and opinions about the council’s initial drawings.

🚨 SHURGARD PLANNING UPDATE - MKCC PLANNING COMMITTEE WILL DECIDE ON WHETHER OR NOT THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE AGREED.

This has been one of the most contentious and controversial series of planning applications that I can remember. The bright red Shurgard building dominates the skyline and has blighted the lives of so many residents.

On Thursday 6th August at 7pm, TWO Shurgard planning applications will be heard, debated on and decided by the Milton Keynes City Council Planning Committee. If you’re able to attend, then please come along and support the speakers. If you wish to say something on the night about the two planning applications, then you must register to speak beforehand to be able to share your views.

⏰ The deadline to register to speak is midday, Monday the 3rd August. Speaker places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
