It's harvest time! A very early harvest again this year due to the hot weather. It is also an extra large crop so will take a while to finish picking. We have started with Bacchus which we use to make our very popular dry white.

It feels as though summer is over. Although we desperately needed rain, we don't like it now it's come! Already the fields are looking a bit greener which is good for the cattle and sheep. We hope the rain will be good for the grapes too but would like dry weather for the harvest.
The swallows and house martins are collecting on the electric wires so they think summer is over too and are heading back to Africa.

All the puppies have homes now but we are still looking after 2 of them while their owners are on holiday so Twig( the one we are keeping)still has some playmates.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been seeing a lot of Clouded Yellow butterflies on the farm and especially in the vineyard. It is possible that the early migrant butterflies have bred here and these are now hatching. They are a beautiful golden yellow and fly very fast
I have not managed to take a photo of one as they rarely seem to settle so the picture is from a book!
