🏊‍♂️ We’ve been home from Centre Parcs for a few days now, and I’ve been reflecting on our week away.

This was our fourth year going, and in previous years Reuben has absolutely loved it.

This year felt different.

The one place he was truly happy was in the water. Watching him swim, laugh and relax reminded us just how much joy it brings him.

But everything around the swimming was hard.

The transitions.
Leaving the pool.
Waiting.
Changing plans.
Moving from one place to another.

There were lots of meltdowns and a lot of distress.

As parents, it’s difficult when something that has always worked suddenly doesn’t seem to work in the same way anymore.

One of the hardest parts of parenting a child with additional needs is that just when you think you’ve found something that works, their needs change and you have to adapt all over again.

This isn’t a post looking for sympathy.

It’s simply an honest reflection that sometimes family holidays don’t look the way we imagined they would.

We’re still processing what this means for future holidays, but one thing we know for certain is that Reuben’s love of water hasn’t changed.

And maybe that’s what we’ll focus on for now. 💙
