Established in 2000, 1st For Fabrics Ltd is a family-run retailer, selling all types of fabrics to a huge variety of customers. Based in Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne, our vibrant store has hundreds of fabrics, trims and notions to choose from, for both dressmaking and furnishing projects.

Part 2 as promised!

We are working our way through of brilliant road trip haul - photographing and filming each one with care to be added to our website.

Today we have added 12 beautiful 100% Cotton Lawns and 2 gorgeous 100% Cotton Poplins to the website.

They are all premium quality Dashwood Studio at the fantastic price of only £12.50 per metre (when we have stocked these qualities in the past they have been £17.95 per metre!)

Cotton poplin is such a wonderful fabric to work with. It behaves well when cutting and sewing, and it feels sublime to wear - soft and breathable, perfect for summer sewing!

Whether it’s garments, quilts or art - making something with your own two hands is incredibly special.

It doesn’t have to be big.
It doesn’t have to be loud.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.

Just doing is enough.

Help a pale Northerner out?

It’s been a long time since I lived in London, and we might see temperatures reach the 30s in the North East only for a few days in high summer … so I am not prepared for this little heatwave next week! I’m still wearing a coat right now for goodness sake 🫣

Please tell me your go-to summer sewing patterns?

I want to be cool, comfy and mostly covered (very prone to sunburn!)
