The tiniest taster of the 147 different steps and countless hours that go into making a single Speedarner.

It's impossible to show you the entire process from beginning to end, as we'd be here for literal days! And, like any 'treasured family recipe' there's a few ingredients and the odd magic process here & there that must always remain a secret...so some of those steps will forever remain a mystery ✨

What I will say though, is that we love nothing more than making these for you and pouring our heart and soul into every single one.

Made from scratch, by hand, right here in our own workshop in a sleepy corner of Cornwall. None of that 'designed in the U.K' and 'assembled in China' malarky, or the other way around. Proper British (or should that be Cornish 😉) manufacturing like the good 'ol days.

Pls help me out...

This stitch creates a lovely effect and the finished repair has a good amount of 4-way stretch, but I don't have the foggiest what it's called 😂.

I've scrolled a bunch of stitch blog posts, but can't find anything that resembles it, except herringbone stitch.

Can you solve the mystery?

Pls chime in in the comments if you know 👇

Break free folks...mend your stuff! ✨🪡🕳️

Sure, I could have bought a new pair when the crotch was busted, but that would have cost me another £70. Instead I chose to fix it myself for a fraction of the cost of a new pair and saved an otherwise perfectly good pair of trousers from rotting in landfill.

All it cost me was an hour of my time, some thread and a couple of meters of cotton tape. £5 tops!

It just makes sense to save things when they're 'broken' rather than throwing them out, we've just been conditioned to think the opposite to keep the wheels of consumption in motion.

Let's take action... let's normalise the act of repair ❣️

Fixin' a hole with no previous experience...from start to finish ✨🪡🕳️

1. Weave in your loose tail (forget about using knots, this method is better for the longevity of your garment)

2. Outline the hole with running stitches catching loose stitches as you go if you spot any.

3. Cover the hole with stitches in one direction making sure to not pull your thread too tight.

4. Weave over and under your initial lines of stitches at right angles. Remember to alternate the 'over under' sequence for the next row. Keep weaving until you've completely covered the hole.

5. Tidy up your loose tail (as before) and trim the excess thread away.

a few more tips ...
✨ Choose a similar thread/yarn colour for a more discreet mend.
✨ Use a short needle for small holes and a long needle for bigger holes.
✨ You can work either from the front or the inside of the garment.
✨ A mending aid like a darning mushroom, mending macaron or darning egg will help hold the fabric for you whilst you stitch which can make the process a little easier.

‼️PLEASE READ: Sadly it's been brought to our attention that two copycat websites trading under the names 'LizAmmon.com' & 'Quinnsewing.com' have stolen images of our Speedarner Mending Loom for the purposes of selling their own darning loom, that does not resemble our design whatsoever.

We want to take this opportunity to state that our Speedarner Loom is handcrafted by us here in Cornwall and is NOT available anywhere else, except our own website.

We do not sell our loom on a wholesale basis, nor do we work with any third parties or drop shipping companies.

The much cheaper price advertised on these websites may be tempting (btw we could never even make our Speedarner for this price!), but please do not be fooled; the product you will receive will not be a darning loom like ours.

We've already been contacted by one customer who has sadly been duped by one of these companies and is attempting to get a refund via her credit card company. I hope this is the only one, but if you have been affected too or are aware of other websites that have not been mentioned, please do reach out to us 🙏

We will be taking every possible step to get these images removed from these websites, but in the meantime we felt it was important to make you all aware...sad times. 😢

Just a little reminder this International Repair Day, that there is so much value in the act of repair 💪🙌😅

It is totally worth your time and effort; don't let anyone else (or big brands!) tell you any different.

They may distract you in other ways with shiny new things, fresh trends or perhaps even argue with you about the exact monetary value of a well-worn piece.

Honestly, the amount of people who tried their v.best to draw me into a 'discussion' about the precise value of this old chair over on TT, is truly wild! How is that more important than the action of saving it from landfill? If the value of the chair is lower, does that mean it's somehow not worthy of a repair or two? And why should the act of repair be tied up with the market value of a piece?

Fixing things saves time, money and resources.

It is a choice for some, but a necessity for others.

Repair is an act of LOVE...for the garment/piece, for yourself, for your community and for the planet ✌️
