We have been learning a new open-weave technique called ‘fitching’ this week at Westhope College.

A challenge for the hands (I have a couple of blisters to prove it!) but extremely satisfying.

Grateful for the excellent tuition by Mortimer Willow, I am so happy with this basket, it’s a great height for an umbrella stand ❤️

Join us for a day of weaving foraged material from Beech Hill Land into a free-from frame basket. Connect to the wild of this land when gathering, meeting the land, as well as meeting the material, and the other participants.

We will sit in circle and connect in a supportive and friendly group. You are invited to come into the group just as you are, in your own ‘Wildness’. In whatever way you find yourself, we will welcome and hold space for it and there will be opportunities to share through the day, should you wish.

Garden Trugs!

This incredibly hard-working group of beginners managed to make these stunning, sturdy and highly functional garden trugs in just a day!

As usual it was not easy and I have no doubt that hands will be sore today but it was very much worth it!

Such a fun group, I loved teaching them and really enjoyed the pleasure of their company - we had a great day! ❤️

I am having a break over the summer as I prepare to move house, but will be posting more new workshops beginning in September as soon as I’m settled!

I am excited to say that Mere Brow Makes will be at The Royal Cheshire County Show on the 16th and 17th June!

Come and see me in the Agri-Centre where I will be bringing along some of our home grown willow and demonstrating the ancient craft of basket weaving. Visitors are welcome to have a try for themselves!

Zarzo Baskets!

An incredible group of ladies came to the workshop yesterday to make Spanish style ‘Zarzo’ baskets. They involve a very different kind of weaving to a traditional basket, and while it is much less intensive on the hands, it still requires a huge amount of hard work, focus, patience and care.

It was a privilege to guide these ladies through the making process and getting to know them in between. A strong, gentle, fun and extremely tenacious group of women. We shared the highs and lows of making and of life! There were tears, laughter, hugs and some beautiful creations!

Willow ‘Zarzo’ Basket Workshop

We are running a brand new workshop on Friday 5th June and there are just a few spaces left.

We will be making these beautiful Spanish ‘Zarzo’ baskets, very different in style to the traditional stake and strand basket.

This basket is perfect for a beginner, especially as it is much easier on the hands and is much less intensive to make!

The day will start at 9:30 and finish at around 4:30 or when everybody has finished. As usual I will cook us a delicious vegetarian lunch and we will share the joy of creating in a supportive and friendly group ❤️.

The cost will be £70.
