So, after almost 24hours of ringing around every charity and organisation I could, I actually thought at one point I was going to end up having this little fella as a lodger!
It's amazing the amount of people wouldn't touch him unless he'd been shot, and there was a large wildcat on the loose in my area at the time, so im guessing smaller charities were more concerned with trying to catch that! (may have seen it in the News - Savannah Cat found in garden plant pot 😂)
Eventually I got through to the nicest ladies at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, and they drove over a hour to come collect him.
I ended up being witness to a medical examination in my front garden, where he sat calmly on this lady's arm - it was quite frankly amazing!
He is believed to be a boy,(Females are bigger) and he would have been one of the hatchlings from this year (remember the Buzzards I was filming earlier on in the year? Their baby!) And of course Alex has called him Buzz Lightyear 😂 what kid wouldn't!
He has a hint of blue in his eyes so they could tell he wasn't very old, (eyes go fully brown when adult), but they checked his wings, they were fine, his legs seemed fine too. But he was very small, so it's suspected he's struggled to fend for himself and near exhaustion.
He had a tiny wound on his back, (my friend witnessed some crows attacking a buzzard earlier that day), so all in all, if I hadn't had found him, he may have been attacked and not survived.
I did find out however, Buzzards aren't aggressive at all. They will play dead if found, so it's very rare they bite. Also they collect any parasites on the birds they rescue, and send them off for analysis, as this is a valuable source of information.
He's gone off to the Raptor Hospital, where he will have had a full exam, and then he will be slowly prepared to be released again, when he's big and strong! The lovely ladies are going to keep me updated also! So hopefully we shall have some updated pictures and information soon!
This has also kicked me up the ass to look into becoming a registered animal rescue charity. (I always wanted to be a vet, I should have stayed with my plans! Spent 20yrs feeding people, I should have been feeding animals 🤣)
That will be quite a while in the making though, I'm having a look at volunteering places and gaining hands-on experience first, whilst I then also get equipment and bits.
