I’ve been quiet for the last few weeks because I’ve been holidaying with family in Italy. Glorious. Rekindled my attraction to pasta and ice cream, beautiful buildings and sun although the Effects of climate change are stark, as they are in many parts of the UK. Never underestimate the power of a holiday and remember to be thankful for the weather on the west coast of Scotland… Thank you Italy. Wishing you a gentle rain…..

And then on Saturday, we started a new tradition! To add to the winter fire cyber/ hawthorn brandy day, a walk through the wildflowers to end up with meadowsweet tincture and linden blossom tea! After our epically lush rain😂 we FINALLY got some warm and settled weather and made hay while the sun shone.. with a cast of lovely friends of the farm we have a productive garden and polytunnel which is now going berserk!! At last…. Reasons to be VERY grateful…

It’s impossible to guess the depth of feeling that exists between 2 animals but the loss of her mate affected Zola badly- it was heartbreaking to watch. After the first few days without him she appeared to go into a depression and just lost her spark. Lots of TLC , homeopathy, massage, music and then……thanks to the SSPCA we have 2 new members of the tribe. Meet Luna and Mr Pickles. Already promising to be a happy little band…. Watch this space for updates.
And in the mesntime, the ENDLESS rain stopped( as the rest of the country fought through a heat wave) and we got our summer….

I’ve been trying to write this post for some time now but my heart has been too heavy. This lovely boy that we were blessed to know, developed a catastrophic illness we were powerless against and his end was sudden and unexpected. Thanks to Helen for trusting us with his care and to all the lovely people who shared our love for him and enjoyed his company- RIP Cal. Gallop free. We miss you.

It’s the little things that delight- the perfect grey sock for early summer, from The Modern Croft - lovely from all angles- topped off with toast and Inverlonan honey. With apologies to my neighbourhood bees, i think it’s the best honey I’ve tasted for …decades! Childhood honey gets a special pass.

Here on the farm the wildflower meadows are beginning to pop and it’s exciting to see what leads the field 😂 in coming forth- this year the oxeye daisies are looking strong with big patches of clover and yelllow rattle chasing hard….Meanwhile, up on the hill, marsh and heath spotted orchids are thriving amongst the bedstraw and water mint…. Just lovely… The place is starting to buzzzzzz. 🐝

One of the great benefits of having volunteers at the farm through the summer- apart from the obvious help in the garden, polytunnel and yard, - is to see the world through fresh eyes. When the eyes are also those of a talented photographer, we are blessed with these beautiful images. Thank you Nicole for your great eye and lovely energy….
