Another week at Mariposa… and once you look back on it we’ve been busier than we thought! 🦋

We had a lovely customer pop back in to tell us that the friendship globe she’d bought for her friend was absolutely adored — which is exactly what you want to hear when we’ve chosen a gift together in the shop. ❤️

Our Gift Boxes are on display ready for not just the C word 🎄🎅but for birthdays and occasions too alongside our Gift Vouchers if you just can’t decide!

And this week, Gift wrapping has been rather popular! We actually had a queue for it Saturday! There’s the simple version… and then there’s the extravagant version, where I turn into Rufus from Love Actually and suddenly a present requires tissue paper, ribbons, bows and considerably more ceremony than anyone expected. 😂🎀

There’s been making going on as well. Two new contemporary pieces called After the Pour, created using the left over resin from other resin work — because some of the most interesting things seem to happen with the bits that were never supposed to become anything.

And then there was the clock… Apple logic board, iPhone motherboard, hard-drive parts, resin, a little sparkle, lights and a clock — all framed up. It didn’t even make it onto the system before somebody bought it. 😂

The nuts, bolts and chain creations are disappearing too — people absolutely love them and our new pens are so tactile! I touch them every time I walk past 🤦‍♀️😬🦋

And in amongst all of that I’ve finished the resin lily from the ‘work in progress’ shelf and some of the other flowers and a lovely commission which I can’t show you yet because it hasn’t been given to its recipient. 🤫 That one will have to wait until next week.

So yes… just another quiet week at Mariposa. 😂🦋❤️

Well… that didn’t last long. 😂

This one didn’t even make it onto the system before it found a new home!

Old computer components, resin and a clock mechanism — turned into something rather different for the wall. ❤️

I do love making pieces where you have to look twice to work out exactly what you’re looking at.

Apparently somebody else rather liked it too. 🦋

SOLD before I even had chance to properly list it.

Back to the workbench then… 😂

🦋 A little Saturday catch-up from Mariposa…

It’s been one of those weeks that, on paper, you might call quiet.

But then I thought about everything that’s happened… and actually, it really hasn’t been quiet at all. ❤️

The big sea abstract has left the building. It’s gone to a lovely new home and there is now a rather large white space on the wall — and, as always when one of my paintings leaves, a little empty space in my heart too. I’m delighted when they find their person, but I still miss them.

And it wasn’t travelling alone! The penny farthing clock has gone to the very same home, so I think the two of them are going to be rather happy together.

There are new things quietly appearing around the shop too. You may have to hunt for some of them — although with a telescope and a magnifying glass currently in the window, you really have no excuse. 😂

And something else has appeared at the back of the workshop.

A large canvas I started quite some time ago and then put to one side.

I haven’t really painted for a while, for personal reasons, but lately I’ve started feeling that little pull towards it again. So I’ve brought this one back out. It isn’t finished. I’m not entirely sure yet where it’s going. But I think perhaps it’s time to find out. 🎨

There have been commissions leaving too, including the coasters, and possibly another piece heading to a new home once I’ve finished it.

But the best bits of this week?

As ever, the people.

The personal shopping. The “I need something for somebody and I have absolutely no idea what” conversations. 😂 One of my regulars has now been in about six times since we opened in July. She barely bothers browsing anymore — straight to the counter with another person she needs to buy for, and off we go!

And then there’s one of my lovely weekly visitors who uses a motorised chair that unfortunately won’t fit through the shop entrance. So she stops outside, I go out for our chat, she asks what’s new and I bring a few things out for her to have a proper look at. Not because she necessarily wants to buy anything. Just because she should be able to enjoy seeing what’s new too.

And I think that rather sums up Mariposa for me.

Yes, there are paintings and clocks and jewellery and gifts and strange little curios. There are commissions, things being made on the workbench and things disappearing off to new homes.

But really?

It’s the people. It’s always the people. 🦋❤️

Well, these finally made it off the workbench… 👀🦋

If you’ve been following our little peeks behind the scenes, you may have spotted various computer bits, resin, clock mechanisms and general creative chaos appearing on the bench.

Some of them have now turned into these. ❤️

An old computer motherboard, given a completely different life as a framed clock…

A hard drive, preserved in resin and turned into a freestanding clock — platter, mechanism and all…

And then there’s the penny-farthing — a completely different resin creation, with metallic tones, little cog details and rather a lot of character.

This particular penny-farthing is already on its way to someone, but the design can be made again in different colours — which immediately has me wondering what colour combination I should try next. 🤔

I do love that Mariposa gives me an excuse to experiment — sometimes taking something that’s finished one life and giving it another, and sometimes simply starting with an idea and seeing where it goes.

And apparently, quite often, it ends up telling the time. 😂

The Saturday catch-up… on a Monday. 😂🦋

Which probably tells you everything you need to know about the last week at Mariposa!

It’s been one of those weeks where an awful lot has been happening — just apparently not enough time to actually tell you about it.

There’s been plenty going on at the workbench, and quite a few new creations have finally made their way onto the shelves. Resin has been out again, including a rather fabulous clock involving an old computer hard drive, and the laser has been busy with keyrings, chopping boards, wallets and more.

The wooden presentation boxes are coming along too, ready for their padded velvet interiors — designed to turn a bottle of posh plonk into a gift that feels just that little bit more special. 🍷

We’ve welcomed Odeta B Calligraphy to Mariposa, bringing another completely different style of work into the shop.

There was also a last-minute wedding rescue — turning a bracelet into a necklace overnight, with the added challenge of needing to use particular stones because of allergies. It was finished and out of the door in time. ❤️

And something I’ve really enjoyed lately is helping people shop for someone, rather than simply selling them something. Who’s it for? What do they like? Favourite colours? What are they into? What’s the occasion? What sort of budget are we working with? Then we have a proper rummage until something feels right.

And when we’ve found it, we can even gift wrap it ready to give. 🎁

So yes… Saturday’s post has arrived on Monday.
