A useful little palette for starting to explore texture and detail.

This selection includes our wool tops and slivers palette with 46 samples, alongside 100g of 01 Off White — a handy base shade for practising lighter details, blending, highlights, soft fur effects, hair, manes, tails, and finishing touches.

For beginners, you do not need every fibre type straight away. Carded wool is still the best place to start for shaping, but tops and slivers can be lovely once you want to experiment with finer textures and little wispy details.

What detail would you try first?

A little Kings Cliffe fact for today. 👑

The name “King’s Cliffe” comes from the village being a royal manor owned by the Crown after the Norman Conquest.

We love being based somewhere with so much history tucked into the everyday. From our little unit here in Kings Cliffe, we pack your wool, tools, kits, and colours before sending them off to your next needle felting project.

Small village, big colour wall.
Did you know where our name came from?

A closer look at wool textures. 👀

When you are starting needle felting, different wool types can feel a bit confusing, so seeing them up close really helps.

Carded wool is usually the easiest place to begin because the fibres are already blended, making it easier to shape and build. Core wool is useful underneath larger pieces, while tops, slivers, and locks are lovely for adding finer texture and detail once you are ready to experiment.

You do not need them all to start. Just the right wool for the project in front of you.

Useful information can make all the difference when you are starting out. 🧵

We loved this review because it mentions the guidance included with our items. Needle felting should feel exciting, not confusing, and the right basics can really help.

A little Mother’s Day colour inspiration. 🌷

For a handmade wool bouquet, try soft petal shades, fresh greens, and a touch of 01 Off White for gentle highlights.

Carded wool is lovely for beginner flower shapes because it felts quickly, builds up smoothly, and does not need lots of extras to get started.
What colours would you choose for a Mother’s Day bouquet?

Mel Grange’s competition entry was too lovely not to share. 🧵

There is something so special about seeing what our customers create with wool, colour, patience, and all those tiny needle-felted details. This is exactly why we love running these competitions — it gives us a chance to celebrate the makers behind the makes.
A big thank you to Mel for entering and sharing this wonderful creation with us.

Colour of the Month: 20 Sunflower 🌻

A bright, cheerful yellow that feels perfect for spring makes, simple flowers, bees, chicks, and little sunny details.

For beginners, yellow is a lovely shade to practise with because it instantly brings a project to life, even in tiny amounts.

Sometimes the hardest part of starting a project is choosing the right colours

A bumble bee might look simple, but the right yellow, black, and soft neutrals make all the difference

Our carded wool felts smoothly and blends easily, so building up those colours feels manageable

If you are ever unsure what to choose, we are always happy to help with colour matching

The tool you use can make a real difference to how quickly your project builds up

Here is 30 seconds of felting using four different tools:
• 8 needle tool
• 7 needle tool
• 3 needle tool

• Single needle
Multi-needle tools help build shape quickly, while a single needle gives you more control for detail
If you are just starting, it can feel confusing — but you do not need every tool to begin

We are always happy to help you choose what will work best for your project
