Cornish seaglass - so beautiful 😍

12/06/2026

A misty walk to Mên-an-Tol (Cornish for 'stone of the hole') this morning.

The mizzle hung heavy in the air, concealing the usual panorama of valleys and hills.

Somewhere in the distance, a lonely cuckoo called, but no reply from a mate. Other than that, there was no other sound. No other people.

Droplets of diamonds clung to the web of a possible funnel weaver spider, causing dinner time delays no doubt, and the cerise spires of Foxgloves swayed gently in the morning breeze.

I stopped for a while at this ancient site and spoke a hushed prayer to the ancestors, asking for their guidance and to watch over my family. I gave my thanks and left.

Have you ever been to Mên-an-Tol?

No one truly knows what this mysterious monument is or what it was for.

It is said to date back roughly 3500 years, from the Bronze Age and consists of a distinctive, circular stone with a central hole flanked by two upright pillars. It is steeped in folklore, including legends of curing backaches and infertility.

POV:

Combining two of your favourite things - sunsets and sea pottery earrings. They make me happy😊

These beautiful things are connected in some way. They're both enjoyed by the sea. It's curious to think that whoever dropped the ceramics into the waves witnessed sunsets just like these, too.

Little pieces of Cornish treasure that have their own stories but ones we will never know. Were these pieces once plates, cups, bowls? Were they from a picnic, dropped overboard from a passing boat, or disposed of from a house clearance, thrown into the depths hoping to be discarded forever?

Intriguing, isn't it.

For now, we can only share their onward journey and enjoy them as beautiful pieces of jewellery.

The sunsets are at Galver and St Ives. A nice contrast of romantic, soft haze and bold, burning orange.

Saving the ocean one earring at a time!

A sad sight. Thousands of pieces of plastic, littering the tide line. The sea has tried to rid itself of the pollution, but come high tide, it will have no choice but to take it back again.

I go out when I can to collect as much as I can and then take it back home to clean it and make it into jewellery.

If we all picked up a few pieces on our beach walks, we may remove that one piece that was destined to choke a bird, fish, or animal. You never know 🤷‍♀️

Inspire Tides Eco Beach range are pieces of unique jewellery that carry a big message;

Keep our sea plastic free!!!

At least these pieces can never harm the sea again. We've got a long way to go though...

I haven't talked about the beauty of brown seaglass for a very long time. I think this amber treasure gets very overlooked in the world of seaglass hunting and jewellery making.

🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎

Brown sea glass, along with white and green are the most common colours you find on British shores.

Traditionally, brown glass is mainly used for beer bottles, and as national statistics show that beer remains a favorite drink in Britain and that the average Brit drinks about 124 pints of beer per year, it's no surprise that there's quite a lot of it about. Cheers! 🍻

When you first stumble across brown sea glass it can look dull and unappealing, but give it a quick rinse in the sea and the warm glow will pop out.

I've very much embraced this brown beauty in my jewellery collection. I always give it a rub with baby oil and that brings out its chestnut lustre.

Brown seaglass looks stunning on its own but add a blue or teal glass and the contrasting colours bring a whole new dynamic.

Hopefully you can see what I mean in this first set.

From pollution to statement pieces of jewellery.

When you wear Inspire Tides sea plastic jewellery, you can't help but get noticed, so start a conversation!😊 A very much needed conversation about keeping our seas plastic free!

Encourage people to pick up the rubbish they find strewn across our shores- no matter how small. It ALL makes a difference.

Sea pottery and ceramics are actually considered to be a man-made marine pollutants, so it can be freely removed from the beach. It's the same with sea glass.

You will often find me, down on the shore happily shoving these small, but perfectly formed treasures into any receptical I have to hand - often a dog poo bag 🙄🫤

A doubly satisfying pastime - clearing the beach and quenching my insatiable thirst to gather 'pretty things'.

I already had the beads. They've been sitting in my craft box for yonks, so I decided it was time I put them finally to good use. I've added the glass ones to compliment the ceramics. I'm really happy with the result.

Here they are then - some of my latest sea pottery earring designs, available now in my Etsy shop. Follow link and all that jazz.

I find all my sea pottery here in Cornwall along the shorelines. If only they could tell us their stories...

Each pair of earrings carries a litte snippet of Cornish history.

Not only were we treated to extraordinary weather last week, but we were also privileged to be entertained by a beautiful pod of dolphins 🐬

We chartered the Mollie May with skipper Rob, who took us out to a prime dolphin spotting location. The pod torpedoed towards us barely twenty minutes into the cruise and didn't leave us for almost two hours. There were around nine in all, of various sizes, from one very large one to two little ones who zoomed around together like twins.

The sun shone, and the sea was calm and silky, making this the perfect excursion. We were even able to take a picnic, literally the cherry on the cake.

I felt very emotional to visit these perfect creatures in their home - such an honour.

Do your bit to keep our waters pollution-free so that they can live long and healthy lives.

As a Plastic Free hero of Penzance, I decided it was appropriate to choose sea plastic as a medium for this project, and I've added some brass, nautical charms.
