Part 3 of our CLP series. You know what goes on a CLP label. You know it applies to you. Now let's talk about what changes when you sell outside GB.
If you ship candles to EU customers or Northern Ireland, your GB CLP labels won't fully cover you. The regulations have split since Brexit, and three specific differences trip people up.
Language. EU labels need hazard and precautionary statements in the language of the country you're selling into. One English-only label won't do for France, Germany, or Spain.
EU responsible person. Since Brexit, a UK-only address isn't accepted on EU market products. You'll need an EU-based importer or responsible person on the label. Some sellers use fulfilment partners for this, others use specialist RP services.
New hazard classes. From 1st May 2026, the EU is adding new classification categories (endocrine disruptors, PBT, PMT). GB hasn't adopted these. If you sell into both markets, your EU labels will need updating even if your GB ones don't.
And don't forget UFI codes, which we covered in part 2. Mandatory for EU and NI since January 2025, still voluntary for GB.
