Fun times at free shop number 5!! Lots of people coming through picking up clothes books and some lovely genocide-free tea and coffee. Costa coffee employees tried to cover up their crimes but we resisted until they got bored of removing chalk.

Successful free shop number 4!! After receiving lots of donations last week, we had lots of clothes and other items out. Great work from everyone involved, we welcomed crips against cuts to our stall and worked on making some signs for Portsmouth Pride.

Hosting our third free shop 🎉 slightly limited this week so no tea and coffee but we still had lots of interaction! We had crocheted coasters and paints and some people drew with our chalk :)

Come back next Friday 12-4 for more free stuff (and hopefully hot drinks!). We’d love you to come visit xx

What is a free shop?
A free shop is a marketplace where everything is free! Anyone can bring whatever they want to give away, and anyone can take what they need. A free shop can have anything you could think of - clothes, food, plants, art, and household appliances.

It can also serve as a place to trade knowledge as well as goods, whether that’s in the form of zines, books, skill shares, workshops, or lectures. Our free shop will primarily be based on Palmerston Road, you may find us on the side of the road under shelter or outside Costa.

We live in a consumerist throwaway culture, where we often have a lot of things we don’t need and no good way to get rid of it. Usually, people will throw it away, donate it to a charity shop, dump it on the side of a road, or give it away to a friend. Free shops offer benefits over all those options, the real point of a free shop is that it creates community.
